Also I think Vita will be a success even if it had a slow start in Japan. It's an awesome system.
It will fail horribly
elsewhere as well. The pricing comes down to about what 300 per console? Games will be at least 40 bucks. Sony expects me to put down 350~ for a new system that doesn't do too much other than play a few select games...
Mobile gaming has made some huge improvements over the last two years. Mobile games are cheap, the majority between 1 dollar and 5 dollars. Hell, I picked up reckless racing 2 for 5 bucks and am blown away by it. The amazing graphics, the smoothness of the controls, the sheer amount of content for a 5 buck game is insane!!! Not to mention fun.
Keep in mind the next generation of android/windows superphones are about to be unveiled in a months time. Does Sony really think people will put that money towards their system rather than for a multi-functional phone? I'd understand if the vita had MicroSD, 16gb onboard memory with support for just about every popular file format available transforming it into a truly multimedia handheld device. Sadly, that's not the case. Had sony made the Vita more open, as in market it is an all in one entertainment center things might have gone differently.
Phones these days have screens better than the vita, are more capable as a multimedia player than the vita. They are lighter, smaller, thinner than the vita. The Vita hardware will reach phones too, as HTC, Samsung and the rest are gearing up their quad core superphones.
Why would anyone buy a vita?
As usual with Sony, a few years too late. Next up, another series of "walkman" from Sony. Sigh......
