[EuroGamer.net] Hirai: Sony could be facing "serious trouble" - Page 7

I don't know why people say that Sony lack in the online area of the PS3.

First and foremost: This is all a matter of opinion.

Since both offer the exact same service (online play, chat, friends, market place, videos on demand etc), then it's down to individual preference.

I personally prefer the PS3. Why? Because it has a built in Wi-Fi card and the online is free (and this isn't a matter of opinion: the service is the SAME, the ascetics are different.). Personally, I find not having to shell out an extra £40 for a Wifi card (when the same cards are £20 for a PC) and not having to pay £39.99 a year for Xbox Live to be a huge bonus.

However, whoever says that Microsoft offer a better online service is deluding themselves and making excuses to clear their conscious of having paid for a years subscription to the service. And don't get that wrong, I'm not trashing XBL. I'm just saying anyone who thnks XBL is better must be trying to make their excuses. Anyone with an objective outlook knows they're the same service down to the core. In the end, it matters more where your friends or favourite titles are than the idea of one being better than the other. They're the same service.

And as for Sony's products. Until Android, I only owned Sony Ericsson phones. They were always great technology. I've had Walkman phones and Cybershot phones. The last Cybershot phone I had was better than most digital cameras I'd used at the time (at least around the price).

Their TV's are always overpriced, but the Bravia engine is still a good set. I'd rather buy a good Samsung TV, though.

Audio equipment? I still have a CD player and speakers from my 16th birthday, they still work fantastically today and sound great.

Too many Sony haters in this thread, to be honest. If MS gets change to seize the console market then the rumours about MS's next Xbox coming in two versions (one high end, one low end) are going to become much closer to reality, oh and expect a price around $/£500+ and games costing around £60 after reductions. Really, you guys don't want Sony to drop out the market.Oh and Nintendo can't compete, they know this and don't even try.

Mobile gaming has made some huge improvements over the last two years. Mobile games are cheap, the majority between 1 dollar and 5 dollars. Hell, I picked up reckless racing 2 for 5 bucks and am blown away by it. The amazing graphics, the smoothness of the controls, the sheer amount of content for a 5 buck game is insane!!! Not to mention fun.
Keep in mind the next generation of android/windows superphones are about to be unveiled in a months time. Does Sony really think people will put that money towards their system rather than for a multi-functional phone? I'd understand if the vita had MicroSD, 16gb onboard memory with support for just about every popular file format available transforming it into a truly multimedia handheld device. Sadly, that's not the case. Had sony made the Vita more open, as in market it is an all in one entertainment center things might have gone differently.
Phones these days have screens better than the vita, are more capable as a multimedia player than the vita. They are lighter, smaller, thinner than the vita. The Vita hardware will reach phones too, as HTC, Samsung and the rest are gearing up their quad core superphones.
Why would anyone buy a vita?
As usual with Sony, a few years too late. Next up, another series of "walkman" from Sony. Sigh......

dude...what the hell are you talking ??

"The amazing graphics, the smoothness of the controls, the sheer amount of content for a 5 buck game is insane"...if your really thing touch only controls are "amazing" in a real game.....wow

"Keep in mind the next generation of android/windows superphones are about to be unveiled in a months time. Does Sony really think people will put that money towards their system rather than for a multi-functional phone"...so, galaxy Note, the most advanced phone right now...price = 700$...Vita superior hardware = 250$.....now repeat that argument please

"Phones these days have screens better than the vita"...show me a device that have a 5.0 SUPER AMOLED PLUS screen at 250$....show me...no, not even the Galaxy Note..it use the inferior pentile screen

Im getting a Vita if you want an answer, I dont want my portable gaming experience reduced to angry birds smile.gif

Oi! Nothing wrong with a little bit of Angry Birds on the bus!

tongue.gif

Personally I see one thing wrong with the Vita and that's that it's not a phone. Who would take out a 3G contract for one of those? Someone with more money than sense, that's who. I like it being W-Fi enabled. Makes sense. But 3G? Sorry but the only time I'm getting a contract with a sim card is for a phone!!

That said, isn't there alreadya PS phone?!

Don't forget also that Japan still hasn't fully recovered the devastating collapse of their markets some decades ago. They didn't rebound quickly enough, unfortunately.

That has almost no effect on Sony's bottom line. Its easily attributed to low demand for Jap electronics and high yen value.

Their name meant something before but now they sell mediocre products at high prices. I'll easily take a Samsung product over an equivalent Sony product.

Sony needs to get it together quickly.

Well, Sony haven't made a panel in the last 4 years at least - their panels are either Sharp or Sammy.
Trident make their vid--chips
Many internal components, boards etc are sourced from South America and the OS is Linux.

Made by Sony? Debatable, no?

They do have a 'design' factory in, iirc Japan.

The good news is Sony acknowledges its problems, and is probably going to do everything they can to fix them.
