[EuroGamer.net] Hirai: Sony could be facing "serious trouble" - Page 8

First and foremost: This is all a matter of opinion.
Since both offer the exact same service (online play, chat, friends, market place, videos on demand etc), then it's down to individual preference.
I personally prefer the PS3. Why? Because it has a built in Wi-Fi card and the online is free (and this isn't a matter of opinion: the service is the SAME, the ascetics are different.). Personally, I find not having to shell out an extra £40 for a Wifi card (when the same cards are £20 for a PC) and not having to pay £39.99 a year for Xbox Live to be a huge bonus.
However, whoever says that Microsoft offer a better online service is deluding themselves and making excuses to clear their conscious of having paid for a years subscription to the service. And don't get that wrong, I'm not trashing XBL. I'm just saying anyone who thnks XBL is better must be trying to make their excuses. Anyone with an objective outlook knows they're the same service down to the core. In the end, it matters more where your friends or favourite titles are than the idea of one being better than the other. They're the same service.
And as for Sony's products. Until Android, I only owned Sony Ericsson phones. They were always great technology. I've had Walkman phones and Cybershot phones. The last Cybershot phone I had was better than most digital cameras I'd used at the time (at least around the price).
Their TV's are always overpriced, but the Bravia engine is still a good set. I'd rather buy a good Samsung TV, though.
Audio equipment? I still have a CD player and speakers from my 16th birthday, they still work fantastically today and sound great.
Too many Sony haters in this thread, to be honest. If MS gets change to seize the console market then the rumours about MS's next Xbox coming in two versions (one high end, one low end) are going to become much closer to reality, oh and expect a price around $/£500+ and games costing around £60 after reductions. Really, you guys don't want Sony to drop out the market.Oh and Nintendo can't compete, they know this and don't even try.

This, I HATE XBOX LIVE. Only thing it does right is cross game chat, and I don't see that as worth the price of a game every year. PC gaming > PS3 online > All else.

I have a Sony Bravia 40" LCD bought over 4 years ago still going strong :-) but on another note my PS3 fat broke a few months ago :-(
post #73 of 98

Tech is advanced too quickly and now everyone has it. Who is going to buy new 60": TV every 3 months?

I had my first 55" LED TV 2 years ago and I'm still using it. The first TV is a Panasonic CRT type and it has been running for almost 20 years and still working in my basement.

This is why economics is funny.

The company has been making billions continuously for years. But if at any moment it suddenly makes a few less millions then it's suddenly going bankrupt.

Viva la economics!

I think SCE isn't really in in financial trouble but rather the main portion of the company. SONY really does have to change a lot of the ways they approach things now... Starting with the high prices rolleyes.gif Honestly SONY isn't one of the companies I imagine when I think about truly customer focused businesses either. ...Not my favorite company but I would like to see them stay in the game console industry (could you imagine what the 360 would have turned into if there was no competition from the PS3?).

Viva la economics!

people look at trends. yes they're still making billions, but they're making less and less each month. doesn't take a genius to plot the dots

Viva la economics!

Sony's been posting a net less since at least 2009. Quite probably longer than that, although I don't care to go back and look.

It has a lot of problems. Its PS3 isn't selling as well as the Xbox 360, it has big stakes in industries like televisions and personal computers that are traditionally low margin (I would be surprised if Sony's television division has made a profit in the last five years), it owns a record label and a movie studio at a time where both industries are in decline, etc etc.

More PS3 consoles are sold per week then Xbox 360, more games too.

And even if they were selling less, that doesn't mean its doing bad. If I was selling less CD's then Michael Jackson, I could still be one hell of a millionaire.
