Total Overclocking Noob - Need some advice on OC'ing my i5 2500K on ASUS p8z68-v Gen3

Hi all,

I finally bought myself a nice gaming rig and I was hoping to finally join the overclocking crowd. I've been reading and researching into this, but it seems to be a steep learning curve.

Are there any guides for OC'ing with my mobo? I saw that there is an excellent guide for the ASRock mobo's and I was wondering if that ports well to the ASUS ones.

As for right now, I wanted to try the AI Suite II provided with the Asus motherboard. I selected the fast option last night, but didn't see that great of an increase. Today, I went up to the extreme level. I saw another post regarding this not being stable for 24/7 operation.

I'm running prime95 blend test right now, and my temp seems to be between 50-55C. I have not checked my BIOS specs, only what is in that tweaker suite and here is what I have:

BCLK Frequency: 103
CPU Voltage: 1.220
DDR Voltage: 1.5
VCCIO Voltage: 1.05
CPU PLL Voltage: 1.8
PCH Voltage 1.05
Multiplier: x44

My Vcore appears to be running mostly at 1.296 with spikes up to 1.304. I'm currently at 4.53GHz and 100% cpu usage on all four cores.

Would this appear to be a safe bet?

My system specs:

CPU: i5 2500K
Mobo: ASUS p8z68-V/Gen 3
Ram: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB 1600 DDR3
Windows 7 64bit
CPU Cooler: CM H212 EVO
Crucial 128GB SSD
Using on-board graphics until my OC'd 7950 comes in the mail.

Thanks for the help

Your temps of 55C are more than safe..

Searching "i5 asus p8z68" on OCN brings up lots of threads to read.. and its worth your time to manually overclock.. if you can find a good template to work from you just tweak in small increments.. just remember not every cpu is created equally.. remember to watch the temps

You should check this thread to see what others are getting by manually overclocking:

There are a couple OC guides for the ASUS Z68 boards listed in there:
