6950 Flash to 6970 or unlock shader.

Thread Starter
So a few hours ago i flash my HIS 6950 2GB with the 6970 bios. I did a few tests on it and everything was looking fine, especially with the higher benching score. Then i got curious with the side effects of the bios flash and started looking up the dangers of it. After a bit of research i have found a lot of mix reviews on this. I wanted to consult you guys to see what you think of the bios flash or experiences with the flash.

I have also read that it's much more safe unlocking the shader clock with o/c. What do you guys think of that? I tried looking for a guide for shader unlock but had a hard time finding any. It would be nice if someone can point me to the right direction.

Thanks. wink.gif

The only real problem or " DANGER " as it were is when you FLASH and run a High End 6970 BIOS onto a Low End 6950 card that isn't really designed to handle the constant 24/7 extra voltage and heat that will come from the higher clock speeds.

MOST cards will handle it, but there have been a handful of rare reports of cards failing prematurely and I think this gained more Urban Legend sort of Status as a result of the nVidia GTX 460 cards that people did this with and ended up frying the Vrams and/or Mosfets from the overclocks and heat. teaching.gif
