What case for this rig ?

Hi guys,

I have absolutely zero knowledge in casing so I'll need your help choosingone for this new rig I'm building right now:
Thanks

I would like the most discreet case possible. (plain black or something like that)
I hate bling bling, colored light, design, sticker or any damn flashy things... All I care of for this case is performance, cost saving and ease of access. It can be silent but it's really not a big deal.

Mobo form factor is ATX (see model# below)
I won't use more than 2 SSD has hard drives (no storage)
I don't need anything more than a dvd rom/writer (no blueray, or any other optical drive required)
Won't use any external drive on this rig either (I don't think that information can be of any use however)...

Anything other information could help?

CPU: i7 2600K
Mobo: ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7970 (will go Crossfire in a year or so)
Memory: 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz (2x4GB)
Hard drive: 160Gb SDD
PSU: SeaSonic X-SERIES X-1050
OS: Win7 64bit
Monitor: Asus VG236HE
Cooling: ????
Case: ????

There are quite a few cases out there that fit your description, but its going to depend a lot on your budget?

Here are a few cases I'm a fan of that I think would match your description

LIAN LI PC-6

SILVERSTONE Fortress Series FT02B-W

Fractal Design Define R3

Antec Sonata Series SOLO II

They are of course all higher end cases, but IMO you definitely get what you pay for (i'm personally an owner of the Silverstone Fortress FT02B-W). As for cooling, I think something such as a Corsair H60/70/80 is a classy choice, otherwise the Enermax ETS-T40 seems to be a nice new cooler.

I'd definitely recommend this one. I have the same case, completely tooless design, and gr8 airflow and competely dust filtered. I have modded mine a bit with dual front intake fans etc but you have that as an option too if you want. As you see by the pic in my sig rig I have an antec 920 in there and it definitely looks the part.

Budget is unlimited as long as I'm not paying for aesthetic features. I like those you listed above, it's simple plain black, clean.

I my mobo is ATX I think... (if that can help on the form factor aspect... )
I won't use more than 2 SSD (no HDD, no other storage at all, only these 2 SSD)
I don't need anything more than 1xdvd rom/writer (no blueray, or any other optical drive required)
Won't use external drive on this rig either (I don't think that information can be of any use however)...
If this can help you refine your suggestion, pleaase do so . Thanks guys

Have this one, great case. Does come with blue LED fans though OP.

Also the Fractal Design Arc Midi is great, not sure about your GPU fitting though...

for the $100 from newegg you can choose any fans you want but yes they are blue LED fans. Lancool FTW thumb.gif

I have a buddy who uses the Lancool case and he's pretty much the same way as the OP -- doesn't like bling/shiny cases/paying extra for bells and whistles. He says the blue LED fans make for a nice accent lighting and the case overall is great.

I personally have never used it but it looks like a nice, simple, and clean case.

Are you looking to water cool later or just air cool? Here are some watercooling ready cases on the cheap. I guess the water-cooling ready bit is for tubing and other things. Hope it helps a little. thumb.gif
