4gb vs 8gb for gaming?

Thread Starter
As you can see in my specs.. I've got a 4gb 1333 stick of ram. I'm wondering if I should upgrade to 2x4gb 1600, upgrade by just adding 1x4gb 1333, or just keep what I have?

Idk if there's a ton of difference in gaming between 1333 and 1600, or if there's a big difference between 4gb and 8gb.

So... Options are:

+Keep the 4gb 1333 (No money)
+Keep 4gb 1333 and add 4gb 1333 (16.99) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820103001
or
+Buy 2x4gb 1600 w/ free cooling fan (44.99) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148544

(I'm leaning towards doing nothing.. but I thought I'd throw this up there to see what ppl think)

No big difference between 1333MHz and 1600MHz, but I highly recommend you get another 4GB stick. It helps ALOT

You wont see a difference from 1333 to 1600, only in benches would you see one. For gaming, nah.

Biggest jump is going to be to 4gb to 8gb. Some games like BF3 and Skyrim are ram hogs and 4gb just isn't seeming like enough anymore

8GB for sure.

- More room to multi-task.
- More Firefox tabs (My favorite..) tongue.gif
- As stated above Battlefield and Skyrim will hog the RAM so it's good to have more.
- Speeds? Can't really tell the difference in everyday use and gaming. Only in benching.

I agree. just get a set of 2x4gb 1600 sticks

should cost you no more than $50 and thats a very cheap upgrade imo.

Right now, the egg is does a promotion on crucial ram. You get a free cooler with purchase

If your system is like mine, I like having a tons of things open push it to 6gb. I noticed my BF3 dip a little less when playing when I upgraded my ram, BF3 does not use up that much ram but my system was so that is why i upgraded. I host servers, play, and render vid files quite often and most of them at the same time so extra ram was nice for me.

For a fresh install system 4GB is enough, 6GB is perfect.

Why the Ballistix?
They can be a real pita sometimes.

But the 4-->8 jump is needed for sure.

BF3 for instance..

I stated in my original post that one of the options is buy the 2x4gb of crucial ram and get the free ram cooler for $45 from newegg... but you can take credit for the suggestion if you really want... lol thumb.gif

Okay, you have all clearly answered my question. I'm going with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820103001 (AMD 4gb 1333)

It's only 17 bucks and I won't notice a difference between 1333 and 1600. Thx for all the input! biggrin.gif
