Is routing a computer soundcard output through the HDMI output of motherboard or video card possible?

Can a computer soundcard with no HDMI output of its own be routed through either the HDMI output of a computer video card or the HDMI output on a computer motherboard? I mean if you are using a very long HDMI cable and add a soundcard to your computer will the computer have an output added in its device manager under sound video and game controller which is an output which comes from the soundcard but can go through the HDMI output of the video card or motherboard. I am asking this very very specifically since when I searched the Internet I get answers that sound like this may be possible but don't quite say it. So I would appreciate a very very pacific answer.

I am using a costly very long HDMI cable and do not want to have to replace it with some other type of cable which is very long and costly to be able to use a soundcard to improve the sound of my home theater arrangement. So is routing the soundcard through the HDMI output of the video card or motherboard possible?

Yes I use an HDMI cable through my gpu to output sound for my TV. In device manager its called AMD HDMI Output. If you use an AMD card. Nvidia something similar prolly but im not sure.

Not sure, all I can say is, it IS possible and i'm quite certain it works that when you use an HDMI cable to your TV or such, Audio is also transmitted, not necessarily your Dedicated Soundcard, but maybe your onboard one. Depends.

Well thanks
but I haven't got a good enough answer yet. The whole point in buying a soundcard would be to improve the audio on my hi-fi set up attached to my television. Another way of looking at it is when you right-click and choose personalization on your desktop, then click on sound, go to the output tab is there a device their added as a result of adding a soundcard which has under its properties (a right-click) a Jack listed there which is HDMI Jack even though the soundcard doesn't possess one of those itself?

As far as Im aware ATI has a onboard sound chip on the card for digital audio. Nvidia used to require a spdif cable run from the system sound card, but dont believe this the case anymore.

So if I am understanding right, what you are trying to do is connect the spdif output on your TV into the spdif input of a sound card, and then connecting the spdif cable of the sound card to the hdmi output of the video card?

This is completely pointless. Just run your cable box into your A/V receiver. There's nothing the computer is going to do to improve the experience.
