Take a serious look at two of today's shellshockers (Antec Neo 620w psu and MSI Z68 motherboard) for your gaming rig. You don't want to go overboard on anything other than the gpu, so remember that. If you do, you'll end up with a slower rig than what you could've gotten.

You are REALLY over spending on a lot of the parts that don't need to be. Here's a $1000 gaming rig:
Quote:
This is easy....

Samsung 2x4GB DDR3-1600 (does 2250 stable supposedly) - $42.28 shipped
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1153188&sku=S204-1020
Asus P8P67 Pro - $88 shipped
http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=P8P67-PRO-BO-R&cat=MBB
i5 2500k - $229 shipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072
Lite On DVDRW - $17.99 Shipped

NZXT Source 210 - $39.99+7.99 Shipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146075
Hitachi Deskstar 500GB HDD - $79.99+6.29 Shipped (WD Green 1TB is $109.99 Shipped if you can afford it)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145531
Add a Crucial M4 64GB SSD later for $100 (this can be added later on)
Sapphire HD7950 - $449.99 Shipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102962
Rosewill Green 530w PSU - $54.99 Shipped
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182199

Grand Total Shipped - $1017.31

Ever so slightly over budget, but well worth it. That chip will do 4.0-4.2 on the stock cooler, and that's currently the 2nd fastest GPU on the market. It'll easily max out BF3 and any other game at 1080p.

EDIT:
If you live by a Fry's or MC you can also pull about $40 off that total by getting the CPU there. They both sell the i5 2500k for $180 in store.

Obviously you can change drives if you've got spares (hard drives are expensive these day), and add in whatever cooler you wish. But you will be VERY hard pressed to beat that build for $1000.....actually...you won't beat it.

And even the 530w Rosewill Green I linked above will easily handle a 7970 (single card). My Antec TPN650 is handling my rig very well. With my old GTX580 overclocked, my PSU fan would ramp up and get very loud. With the 7970 its very quiet (meaning I'm nowhere NEAR even 600w draw).

I second pioneerisloud. I also disagree with the idea with 4 GB of RAM is enough. It's enough for your mom's web browsing and emailing machine. I use just under 3 GB at idle, and firefox can easily chew over 1 GB. then you have your games and ya know actual programs. I'm tempted to go to 16 just so I have nice headroom. but for your budget/build I'd say 8 GB is a good starting point. If you plan on doing any massive overclocking, it doesn't have to e expensive. You can probably do without the ripjaws series.
And remember that your GPU is the the most important piece of a gaming rig. Don't skimp on that, if you can fit it in the budget (and it looks like you can, with all the suggestions here) go for the 7950, or even the 7970. You won't regret it, and the current-gen cards will use less power and put out less heat.
And then you have the option of crossfire down the road thumb.gif

They're only $39.99 on TigerDirect as seen in my proposed build above. rolleyes.gif

They're cheaper than any "enthusiast" 8GB kit, and they overclock AMAZING. I've got 32GB of it on the way to me right now. wheee.gif
