Help! Flowrate is dropping

Thread Starter
So I built my first watercooling system and I am pleased with myself because the temperatures are pretty amazing (29C idle to 50C full load) after I have pushed the CPU/GPU a bit. Yay me. biggrin.gif However, the past couple of days I am seeing a notable drop in flowrate and cannot explain it. So two days ago I was at 3.7 l/min and today I'm down to 3.5 l/min. I would like to avoid tearing the whole thing down again if possible. You can read about / see my build + comments here

So from what I know there are a few possible problems:
- Something has gummed up one or both radiators.
- One or both pumps are wearing out prematurely. ohno-smiley02.gif
- One or more water blocks is gummed up.
- The Flowmeter is slowly failing. (again) mad.gif

I have eliminated two major hose kinks and replaced them with PVC 180deg. bends. Even then if I did it wrong, that would mean that I would have less water flow, not a degrading amount of flow over time.

Does anyone have any advice on how I should approach troubleshooting this? I'd like to avoid tearing it completely down again if possible. I am running about 1/2 gallon of distilled water + 1/8th of a cup of Primochill PC ice. The water appears to be clear in the tubing and the big tank. I filled the system last week so it hasn't been sitting that long. There is a very minor residue on the tank, but I need light shining though to see it. I think it's plastic crud from the hoses. No obvious signs of corrosion or clogs in the system. I know that I'm dropping below the magical 1 gal/min point and since I have such a large thermal capacity I have some slop, but I'd like to address / explain this before the problem starts to threaten my system.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Hex.

thats not a huge drop and could be attributed to normal breakin....pump and flow gauge....i would keep a close eye on it and make sure it doesn't drop any further before getting real excited

Update:

Currently hovering at 3.4l/min (0.9gal/min). I tried a quick experiment and briefly disabled each pump individually to see if they are doing what they should. Essentially, long enough to read the fan tachometer value and then plug it back in. As far as I can tell each pump is pushing its fair share of the load. The MCP35x pushes more than the Phobia pump which is the expected result. If the roles reversed, then I'd be more concerned. So for now I'm ruling out the pumps. I did purchase a "backup" Liang 655 in case I need it. Let's hope I don't; I don't want to rework the loop and integrate a new pump.

It has been suggested that the small amount of premix fluid I added may be the culprit. I'm skeptical of that suggestion primarily due to the ratio of water to premix is so lopsided towards water.

Water clarity has had no apparent change. (still clear)

It is possible that the flowmeter is being evil. My first one was DOA and didn't spin at all until I manually freed it and then seized up again after 30 mins. I'm not convinced that is the possible failure point, but it is suspect. If it drops below 3 l/min I'll tear the system down and check everything out again.

Hex.
[ Is still just stoked that I'm seeing sub 50C temps nearly all the time... ]

What flow meter are you using?

The one I use to have wans't 100% accurate but gave a good average reading....
