I think what Mkilbride is trying to say is, if you built it yourself, it would cost way less (the use of the rough "40%" figure).

If you don't care about the cost, by all means go for what you already have planned out. But, just realize that if you were to buy the parts individually of Newegg, you could get way more for a given price. Assembling a computer isn't as scary as it seems.

As for the antivirus, just connect to the internet and download whatever one you want (MSE, Nortan, AVG, Avast!, etc). Go directly to the site and you shouldn't have any issue. After the AV is installed, start installing updates, for security reasons smile.gif

Yep, been there and done that back in the early 80's.
Heck, everything is plug-n-play and a jumper here and there.

I have had boards "go out," 2 1/2 years after buying new, and with the warranty they simply get replaced by the company (Dell).

Thanks for being here.

Me too. With PCs being easier than ever to build yourself, paying huge prices just to have it done for you makes me facepalm.

Good luck with your new rig!

Likewise... However, I can understand how these can cater to some as they are hassle-free and hands-off (pre-built computers). I really do not understand the warranty provided by them though, as I am sure they will just send the parts back to the manufactures (I suppose they are the middle man in this case).

I checked out the PassMark benchmarks before I spec'd this system and chose the items with the biggest bang for the buck.

Building one at home wouldn't stroke my ego enough, nor is it something I want to do.
(NO "LOL!," but implied just the same ; )

OcCing the 2600k, OTOH, is something I do want to find out more about and is the reason I am here.
That is WHY I purchased the 2600k CPU.

As an aside, most all of my other forum forays are treated much more politely.

OCing the 2600k beyond the factory OC will likely void any warranty you get.

2600k + 2GB 6950 is no longer an extraordinary setup, at least on OCN...
