Gtx 560

Thread Starter
Hi, I have a question.

I currently have a GTX 560 paired with 990fx mainboard and phenom x4. I play BF3 on high settings smoothly but, I want more!

As you know the 990fx extreme 3 has 3x pci-e 16/16/4.

I read that x8 x8 is better than x16 x16 in sli??

How much improvement would I get if I bought another 560?

For those who need to know, here are my full system specs.

Asrock 990fx Extreme3
8 Gigs ddr3-1333 G skill ripjaws Running @1332
Amd Phenom II X4 925 stk 2.8 @3.5 no vcore boost biggrin.gif
Evga SC GTX 560 occasionally running at 892 mhz
Force 3 60 boot ssd
500 Gig 7200 rpm WD

Midsize case with 5 fans w/ fan controller

92 mm zalman fully copper CPU cooler. Never above 55C

I know that 2 560 TI's are better then 1 580. So GTX 560 probably around the same performance as 580

x8 x8 is not better than x16 x16...

x16 x16 is a few percent better...
anyway, with another 560, you'll get better performance. BUT, because BF3 is a vRAM hog, even if you have two 560s in SLI, you'll be limited by the 1GB of vRAM on those cards....

My two 560Tis in SLI are sweet, but at 1680 X 1050 all settings on HIGH, HBAO ON, 4X MSAA, 8 x AF, VSYNC-ON, I ALMOST max out my vRAM (1009 out of 1024mo)...

So, basically, you'll still be limited by the vRAM in your situation...

If I were you, if you want more, I'd look into a card with more vRAM... (min 1.5GB)....

x16 x16 is better than x8 x8. You would likely see an 80% performance increase by adding another 560, getting you right around the 580 level of performance when VRAM is not a limiting factor.

Folding on two EVGA GTX560 SC cards, I used to be getting between 15-18k PPD, now I'm only getting 11k ish. I'm not sure if its the WU I'm on right now... any ideas? I'm working on WU 7641, on 296.10 drivers. My clocks are 985/2180/1971 @ 1.05Vcore.
