My "Help me Find a Keyboard" Thread

Thread Starter
I bought a Mac Layout BWU, and it just isn't working out with Windows, so I'm going to be returning it. I would appreciate some advice on what to replace it with.

Things I wan't

- I am primarily interested in typing. Gaming is not that big of a deal to me as I am, frankly, not good enough for it to matter. I am also going to be doing a lot of writing soon and I want a really good keyboard.

- I like the Blues on my BWU. The spacebar and delete keys are annoying, but other than that I like the way the keys feel. I like the noise too. I have not tried any of the other switches, but I have heard that the blues are the best for typing anyway.

- I want a backlight. Preferably something other than blue.

- 10-keyless would be preferred, but I do need to have my arrow keys and my page/up/down/whatever keys.

- I want something that looks modern and professional. I'm not going to buy a Model M, and I don't want to buy something that looks tacky. For the record, I like the way the BWU looks, as well as the Das.

- I would prefer to not have function keys since I accidentally press them instead of Ctrl on my BWU, and I used to have the same problem with similarly located keys on my HP Envy 15 laptop.

- I don't like the ugly lettering on some Ducky boards I've seen.

- I think $150 is my limit, although I would prefer to stay under that.

Does this keyboard even exist?

I have been looking at the CM quickfire Blue. It seems to have everything I want except for the backlight. Is it worth giving up the backlight for?

How about something like this?  It's a Pure w/ aluminum case from Vortex (source):

That looks great but,

1. It doesn't seem to exist yet.
2. No home/page keys.

Thanks. It's perfect, except for the lack of backlighting. It also costs twice as much as the CM Crossfire.

Filcos are very hard to find and have a very high build quality. It will last twice as long as the CM Crossfire and if you really like back lightning look at the Ducky Shine, I know you said you don't like how the letters look but at least give it a look. Das also makes very good mechanical keyboards, none backlit though. Personally I would stick with Ducky, Filco, or Das because I like to buy things that last so I save money for replacing it and it works better.

Actually, that Ducky looks fine, but then I don't like the fact that it isn't tenkeyless. FOr some reason it doesn't bother me as much on the BWU.

Everything I have heard about the Crossfire is good, but I really do want my backlit keys. It's funny, I have no real need for them, I just like the aesthetic.

Also, I am totally in love with my BWU now that I have been using it for a little while. The keys are so responsive for gaming and it is so great to type on. If nobody can suggest the perfect/ideal keyboard for me I may jsut end up getting another BWU.

Well I you have the money Decks are the best out there. Maybe look at Leopolds?

OK, ya, it was the Deck lettering that I hated, not Ducky. Got the two confused.

I just can't see myself buying a keyboard with keys/logo that looks like that, although the Frost is basically what I am looking for.

It's also quite expensive, almost twice the price of the BWU.

I think you mean the dedicated "Fn" key, not the function keys (which usually refers to F1-F12).

As far as the board goes, the KBT Race 75% is what you want. It might be tricky getting your hands on one with Blue switches, but it seems like the perfect board for you. It's available with white or green backlight as far as I know.
