2700k with H100 high temps? - Page 2

Airflow seems to be OK - I've got a 20cm intake fan on the front of the case, a 14 (exhaust) on the back and 2 12s (both exhaust) on the radiator at the top of the case that's attached to the H100. There's plenty of space for air to flow and it's nice and neat.

The H100 has thermal compound pre-applied. Apparently it's quite a good thermal compound (so I've read). The only thing I wonder about is when I attached the cooler backplate to the motherboard, it was slightly loose (apparently the P8Z68 is thinner than most). Once the cooler was attached it seemed fairly solid, so I wasn't too worried about it. Perhaps it's not as good a seal as I thought.

daguardian - when you reseated the H100 did you replace the thermal compound? If so, what did you use?

81C isnt to bad. Tryed running intel burn test yet? that makes the prime temps look like normal load tongue.gif is it seated properly? waterflow doing well? No condensation or strange sound? I Hear these corsair h100's are so nice and allow one to water cool without all the maintenance/trouble.

After an hour of P95 I sit low 60s @5Ghz 1.46v

That's REALLY high, I have higher voltage than you do at 4.6 and I never hit 60C

Sorry for not getting back sooner.

When I installed the H100, I had difficulties with the back plate.

Firstly I had it sideways - without realising - needless to say it would not post, major error on my part.

So I took it all out and started again, finding my error, I reapplied the TIM paste (Arctic Cooling MX-2- its what I had at the time) , but it still wasn't right, the temps were still high on idle.

So I took a closer look at 4 screws around the cpu block, and realised that 1 wasn't quite screwed all the way.

So I removed it again and started from scratch, making sure all the screws were tightened correctly and in order according the instructions, and it worked like a charm.

I would try installing it again, good luck thumb.gif

Great, thanks for the quick response! I'll get myself some thermal paste and start from the beginning.

my bad about nb freq, it was like 3 in the am
but can you post a pic of your rig (or make one in ms paint) with lines drawn showing airflow.
and put a piece of paper over a vent to determine if its positive, negative, or neutral pressure and by how much?

Hi phillyd,

I'm going to try reseating the cooler first. If that doesn't work I'll post some pics of the airflow and try down that path.

Just waiting for the thermal paste to arrive. I've ordered some Artic Cooling MX-4. Hopefully that'll do the job.

i had the coolermaster h50 and i was getting 15c+ higher temps than i was with my air cooler. idk, maybe i got a bad one. it seems like there are alot of people with good results with them. i have a noctua NdH14 now, and i'm at 4.8@1.35v with my 2700k and getting about 60c temps on prime95. good luck with your system.

I'm using the h100 as well with the pre-applied thermal paste on a i5 2500k. i got an ap-14 for exhaust and 2 ap-14's on it. (couldn't fit push /pull :x) . Mine seems hot too though. I lowered the pll voltage as low as I could go.. as well as the vcore.
