I want to buy parts and build a gaming PC but I don't know what to buy. Could someone help me make a machine that is able to run games like BF3 and then some? I don't know what to look for really so I'm asking for help. I don't need monitor/speakers/keyboard/mouse, but I do need everything else! Just post with the best possible rig I could get for 1k please!

Definitely, overclocking allows you to get that extra bit more out of the hardware, and depending on the 'level' you go to, is pretty safe.
There are guides here for overclocking the i5 2500k, that will almost guarantee a stable 4.0 GHz overclock.
CPU + Mobo:

Case:

It wont Max battlefield, but it'll do pretty damn well.
I assume you'll be playing at 1080p also

Ive just noticed, this is the AMD forum
maybe, it's very Graphics intensive, so you can buy a pair of second hand GTX580s / HD6970s
and thatcwould have you set..

He could be interested in an AMD GPU amirite?@OP Best way to go is the Intel route and you could add an AMD GPU.
And yes a 1000$ build can max out BF3

Okay this is what I came up with,
It has no HDD cause I think the HDD prices right now are outrageous and if you can, get an HDD from somewhere just to put the rig functioning. It can be even be the HDD from a laptop or old rig just needs to be SATA.
It goes 100$ above your maximum but thats because of the cooler, if you are going to be overclocking you will need a cooler but if you remove it it will be in the 1000$ mark.

It also comes with some extra's of some sort lol
Theres a dirt3.
