Also it would give you a little more time to save towards your build. I know it's really nice to have something new and fun at this very moment, but it also sucks to look back and think "If only I'd had a little more money I could have gotten......." For example, you could put more money towards a more powerful PSU and then down the line add a second GPU, but if you skimp on the wattage of the gpu now and decide to run two video cards down the line you'll just have to replace the PSU.
I saved long and hard for exact specs of my build and am very happy with it. I wish my mobo was a better overclocker but that's a different story as I hadn't thought about getting into overclocking when I was putting the build together.

total without a video card 716.95
I like that particular motherboard because it offers both SLI and Crossfire, so if you do decide to go with a multiple gpu setup you aren't stuck to only one side. I would do the larger PSU because why not? It'll be good for years of upgrades and better to have a little more if need be. And the Phenom II x4's are great CPUS, better for gaming than the bulldozers from what Ive read. I also read an interesting review of the 7970 where they had top end intel and amd cpus and it shows the results are pretty negligable
http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-7970-cpu-scaling-performance-review/9
So that's my two cents, wait and put a little more money into your build, besides if you wanna play games on the high end of settings you're gonna have to plop down at least $500 for a higher end card. Wait it out two months and see what the two companies do with their prices

I have a 7970 and an AMD CPU and I would never recommend that to anybody. I'm selling mine off and went Intel. I saw AMD's limitations first hand, and theres a loss in performance especilly on CPU entensive games. I found that when I cranked up the settings on every game that my GPU should of handled the FPS were dropping. The only time I saw inprovment over my 6950 2gb (Shaders unlocked) is when I set my 7970 to the same settings the 6950 was on. So it's like I wasnt getting much better performance then with my 6950. So Im getting $400 of performance on a $550 card which make me so mad at AMD right now, because i'm one of there biggest fans.

ignore his gpu suggestions.
it only makes sense to get an i5 tho

my suggestion is get any quad core processor (amd or intel does not matter for bf3)
buy sapphire radeon 6950 TOXIC 2gb , unlocked it into 6970 =)
8 gb ram
500gb or 1tb HDD depends, no need for SSD if u dont hv the money
ASrock z68 pro 3 for intel, asus m5a880 for amd

thats the basic of it..with my rig, im running ultra in battlefield 3 multiplayer with average of 45-55 fps thumb.gif

Due to pic, the i5 will outperform any phenom 2 by a mile and will easily outperform the bulldozer quads

It wouldn't be a big deal in bf3, due to its gpu and ram intensivity, but it would in other games

You don't even OWN or use a 7970 with an AMD CPU so how can you give people advice on products you don't own and havent used. Sorry I was not going to repost here on that topic (unless asked) but when people disrespect other peoples opinions it really gets to me, to say ignore him to anyone is rude, I say ignore your opinions on 7970/7950 because you dont have ONE. If you ever read any of my posts, Im the worlds biggest AMD fan but I couldnt deny it's perforamnce compared to other brands anymore. Anyways im sure the OP will make good choices there's alot of good builds here.

EDIT: I work to much and should sleep more, total misuderstanding,,tongue.gif

Give it some time, all it will take is ONE HDD manufacturer to drop its price and the rest will follow, simple business. thumb.gif
