I think that will work perfectly fine. That'll do BF3 great and you dont need an SSD at all, sure its fast and all but its not necessary at all.

Edit: I think it would also be worth it to upgrade to the caviar black, itll be more worth it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136795

The tradeoff for a minimal CPU improvement: a less prominent GPU.... no SSD...... (an SSD alleviates the single biggest bottleneck in modern computer systems and actually faster storage can induce FPS improvements depending on the game - Crysis particularly) and 1/4 the available hard drive space.... alright, have it your way then.  It's not as well balanced a PC that way, and it might not be within budget..... but have it your way.

Grand Total Shipped - $1017.31

Ever so slightly over budget, but well worth it. That chip will do 4.0-4.2 on the stock cooler, and that's currently the 2nd fastest GPU on the market. It'll easily max out BF3 and any other game at 1080p.

EDIT:
If you live by a Fry's or MC you can also pull about $40 off that total by getting the CPU there. They both sell the i5 2500k for $180 in store.

What exactly is an SSD? And is it necessary?

That'd be difficult at 1920x1080. The GPUs to do that would probably cost you around ~$500 or so... and that's half your budget right there :/

I'll check into this more tomorrow

it's a really fast, quiet hard drive. it's not necessary at all, it's just nice to have. read: luxury item

Okay thanks.

And if it means anything, I'm going to be playing on a 25 inch LED tv with an HDMI.

EDIT - I also have a CD/DVD thing already I just found, as well as a 250GB western digital HDD. I think the HDD works but I'm not 100% sure.

Are they both SATA? With a new build, they'll HAVE to be SATA in order to connect to the motherboard.

If that's the case, knock out the hard drive and optical drive from my proposed build (or at least the hard drive), and put a SSD in there, and maybe a better cooler like the CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ for $30.
