Right. So then I would buy a DVI to HDMI adapter correct?

DVI to HDMI, or Mini DP to HDMI. And if you buy a Sapphire card, it SHOULD come with any adapters you need anyway. Mine came with adapters to use HDMI.

My advice would be to wait a short while for Nvidia to release their new lineup of cards to see if there are any price drops on the cards out currently. Also it would give you a little more time to save towards your build. I know it's really nice to have something new and fun at this very moment, but it also sucks to look back and think "If only I'd had a little more money I could have gotten......." For example, you could put more money towards a more powerful PSU and then down the line add a second GPU, but if you skimp on the wattage of the gpu now and decide to run two video cards down the line you'll just have to replace the PSU.

I saved long and hard for exact specs of my build and am very happy with it. I wish my mobo was a better overclocker but that's a different story as I hadn't thought about getting into overclocking when I was putting the build together.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103935 159.99

total without a video card 716.95

I like that particular motherboard because it offers both SLI and Crossfire, so if you do decide to go with a multiple gpu setup you aren't stuck to only one side. I would do the larger PSU because why not? It'll be good for years of upgrades and better to have a little more if need be. And the Phenom II x4's are great CPUS, better for gaming than the bulldozers from what Ive read. I also read an interesting review of the 7970 where they had top end intel and amd cpus and it shows the results are pretty negligable

http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-hd-7970-cpu-scaling-performance-review/9

So that's my two cents, wait and put a little more money into your build, besides if you wanna play games on the high end of settings you're gonna have to plop down at least $500 for a higher end card. Wait it out two months and see what the two companies do with their prices

I have a 7970 and an AMD CPU and I would never recommend that to anybody. I'm selling mine off and went Intel. I saw AMD's limitations first hand, and theres a loss in performance especilly on CPU entensive games. I found that when I cranked up the settings on every game that my GPU should of handled the FPS were dropping. The only time I saw inprovment over my 6950 2gb (Shaders unlocked) is when I set my 7970 to the same settings the 6950 was on. So it's like I wasnt getting much better performance then with my 6950. So Im getting $400 of performance on a $550 card which make me so mad at AMD right now, because i'm one of there biggest fans.

Fully overclocked 1100T (4.2 GHz ram tweeked to 1640 Mhz 49.9 lantency) and I just bought a I7 2600k but I havent installed it yet (Im waiting for my water loop). My cpu handled an OCed 6950 2gb shaders unlocked to full performance. And like I said the 7970 is faster but not 30% faster more like 10-15% which isn't right. I know there's been threads on AMDs losing perofrmance on crossfire (Which with 2 decent GPUS = 1 7970) as well. But anyways that was just my thought for the OP because I have first hand knowledge and not benches or rumors or reviews but the real deal. I don't want to hijack the thread so thats all I got on the matter. thumb.gif

That was why i posted my findings for the op. And thx about the helmet it was a silly day thumb.gif

To be fair, you weren't fully utilizing your unlocked 6950 either. wink.gif A similarly clocked i5 would've gotten better framerates with the same card.
