Fans and Tubing

Hey guys, I just have a couple of questions about fans and tubing.

First of all, I'm looking for some medium speed fans to use with a Black Ice GTX 360 radiator. I know they won't get as much performance as something like an Ultra Kaze or a Delta, but I'm looking for something that performs well and aren't as loud, and according to reviews I've seen, I wouldn't be sacrificing that much performance with medium speed fans.

That being said, I'm a little stuck on which fans to go with. I was going to go with some Cooler Master Sickleflows, but I've been told that Cooler Master overrates their fans and that they wouldn't be that great on a radiator. If that's true, then I'm thinking of going with some Gelid Wing 12 PL fans. Which ones do you guys think I should go with, and which fans would you suggest for the Black Ice GTX 360 that aren't super loud? I would prefer fans with blue LED lights.

Cooler Master Sickleflow

Gelid Wing 12 PL

Also, I'm looking for some nice UV blue tubing that is nice and bright when exposed to a UV light. Anyone have any experience with this? I want the tubing to really pop and be as bright as possible. I was thinking either feser, primochill, or danger den. Anyone know of some really bright UV blue tubing?

You want fans with high static pressure for water cooling and not all fans have this but here are some that do LINK , LINK Or LINK I am sure others will add to the list

Primochill works great thumb.gif

Well the Gelid Wing has a static pressure of 2.66 mmAq, and I'm not sure what the Sickleflows are, but I've seen people claiming they ahve a static pressure of 2.94 mmAq.

Any idea how that compares with the gentle typhoons and yate loons?

I have a 360 gtx and a 240. I use delta AFC1212D-PWM 120x25mm. I went with 25mm so i could fit push pull inside my haf 932. These fans are beast, 113 cfm/ .43 in of static pressure and run a max of 3400rpms (great for benchmarking). Plus they are pwm so no need for a fan controller, just buy a pwm splitter (i have 10 of these fans plus my pwm 35x pump all connected to 2 pwm connectors on my motherboard) the splitters get power through molex so no burning ofbthe mobo. I use speedfan and these suckers will go all the way down to 1200 rpms for very quiet operation.

Compared to the ap 15s, these do a better job at what u need.
Deltas have higher stacic pressure and cfm at the same rpm.
The deltas at $19 a piece compared to $22 for ap's
The deltas have pwm so no need for an extra fan controller
The deltas are about 5db louder at any given rpm above 1500.

Forbme, the noise is not a problem as they run at 1200-1500 rpms 90% of the time and only max out while i benchmark. I get aboult at 2-5*c difference in water temp from 1800 rpms to 3400rpms. From 1200 - 1800 i get about a 2*c differenve in water temp

As for uv blue tubing, take a look at my build in my sig. I used primochill LRT pro uv blue. If you look at it in regular light it is purple, but with uv leds and blue leds (i used a combo of uv, blue, and white leds) it is a fantastic electric blue and looks awesome.

Also, the primochill LRT can bend insainly well. I cant get this stuff to kink even at 90 degree bends (1/2 id 3/4 od). Probably the best tubing u can get honestly.

Well, I've been doing some research. It turns out the Gelid Wings have better static pressure than the 1850 rpm gentle typhoons, but the higher rpm gentle typhoons have slightly better static pressure. Also, Aquatuning.co.uk is claiming that the Cooler Master Sickleflows have a static pressure of 0.12 InH2O, which is better than either the Gelid Wings or the Gentle Typhoons.

I also looked up a review of the Black Ice GTX 360 and the difference between a Yate Loon D12SH-12 and an Ultra Kaze DFS123812H @2317rpm is only a 3 degree difference in delta temperatures. I don't know how much static pressure the Yate Loons have, but I know they're supposed to be similar to the Gentle Typhoons.

Anyone know if that figure for the Cooler Master Sickleflows is true?

I guess its a question of how much u want to spend and what rpm u want.

Higher rpm fans will have higher cfm and static pressuse because of the added speed (90% of the time). 1850 gts ofcourse will have lower cfm and pressure than 2100 gts.

As i said before, higher rpm fans are nice because if u ever wanted to have more and.more cfm than just crank up the fans, want quieter operation? Lower them. I dont know what u want out of ur fans. If u want them to be full on but quiet at thr same time, go with 3 pin gts. If u want adjustability, cost savings and higher max output get pwm fans that rock out at like 3000 - 4000 rpms.

Sorry, i just never understood the obsession with gental typhoons or guild wings. With the price u pay to get them and a fan controller that must be manualy adjusted compared to better quality and stats (deltas) that are pwm for no fan controller and follow ur cpu temp, it just doesnt add up to me.

The deltas are almost 20% better in all tasks while costing $3 less a piece and saving u a $30-50 dollar fan controller.

I dunno, maybe trendiness is more important to some people. Butbthen again we are talking computer mods on the internet, so i should expect it lol

Can't really look at JUST numbers for static pressure ratings... most of the times they'll exaggerate it. Seems like AP15s push more air and are quieter than the wings..

Awesome. Thanks for the chart. According to that, I'm going to stick with the Cooler Master R4's (or Sickleflows as they are known as now). I already have four of them, so I'm going to buy two more of them to put them in a push/pull configuration.

However that is with the XSPC RS series radiator, which has a thickness of 21mm and 13 fins per inch. The Black Ice GTX 360, on the other hand, has a thickness of 54mm and 20 FPI. Should I get a different radiator if I'm going to be using the Cooler Master R4s?
