How is Space Marine?

Thread Starter
Thinking about getting the game while it's on sale, but worried about how bad of a console port it might turn out to be.

Anyone have any experience with the game?

It is surprisingly good, and very faithful to the wh40k lore and stuff I don't care about. the single player story is very good and the multiplayer with the DLCs are also really good, especially with dreadnought mode

Pro
Good Story
Good Graphics
Good Console Port
no CTD or crashes of any kind
there will be a sequel

Con
Console Port

I got it on sale at Green Man Gaming, and I'm happy with my purchase. Plays fairly well for a console port.

I pre-ordered it and was completely disappointed. It was one of the most boring games I've ever played in my life and i'm a huge W40K fan. The story is a direct copy of the first Dawn of War game. It's unfaithful to the lore (Lascannon being a sniper rifle, lolwut?). The campaign is about 7 hours long and is a 100% linear corridor shooter. The graphics are dated and gameplay wise it's Gears of War without a cover button (but you'll still need to take cover especially the latter half of the game due to the Chaos Space Marines all being armored with ranged weapons). The execution animations always clip through terrain and there are only 2-3 per weapon so they get old fast. There are many sections of the game where you're riding in an elevator not doing anything. I assume these were the loading sections on consoles. The last boss fight is nothing more than a quick time event.

Multiplayer was a complete afterthought and Relic decided it would be brilliant to splinter the already tiny MP community by releasing tons of paid DLC.

Space Marine can be best described as being equal to the level The Library in the first Halo game that is completely generic, bland, uninspired, and boring. If it wasn't for the 40K license this would've been as generic as something like Garshasp The Monster Slayer or X-Blades.

Avoid it unless it's $5. The first chapter is pretty fun but it just goes downhill from there and soon you'll be spending hours in endless copy/paste corridors (sewers, the machine facility, etc) with pointless elevator sequences.

It was fun, pretty short. Only made it through once. Overall a good experience.
