AMD Fangirl switching to Intel on a $1,000 budget - Page 5

Why not the HD7850 instead?

Adobe and others will probably better support GPU-acceleration with the new GCN architecture.
Once again...

What ASRock Z68 MB is that?

What case will you be using? NZXT HAVIK 140 is pretty tall.

You guys are the best! biggrin.gif I've learned so much so far :3

Looking like a very solid build, what ASRock motherboard model are you looking at? There are 9 ASRock z68 mobos on newegg.

My last bit of advice would be to make sure the motherboard has 2x PCIe x16 slots (for possible crossfire in future) note some of the cheapest z68 mobos only have 1 PCIe x16 slot, meaning you could only have 1 graphics card, so no crossfire.

When are you going to start ordering parts / building this system?

If you would start around the end of Feb, or early march I would recommend looking into the 7850 graphics card. It should be introduced at ~$250 and the newer architecture should make it more efficient and faster than the 6950. (I would wait for a couple reviews before purchasing though)

If you are going to build sooner, go with the 6950 2 gb you will be very happy with it.

So far, that list in OP looks excellent. thumb.gif With all the suggestions you got here, you're looking at a very potent machine. From looking at the price of the MB, I'm guessing you decided on a Extreme 3 Gen3, which a VERY good board. Just make sure you download and flash the latest BIOS.

You're from Japan, you say? I traveled to Osaka a few years ago with my wife to meet the in-laws. Great city. Loved every minute of it. That place has like double or triple the population density of Los Angeles so it kinda blew me away at first. My only regret is that I didn't eat more. biggrin.gif I wanted to eat absolutely everything over there.

BTW, Mister Donut = heart.gif

ivys supposedly coming out in april, if you know you defiantly want to go that route why spend the $$ on a 2500k now and on a HT enabled ivy later(est like $600)? if i was you id get the 2600k now, a sub 100 sandy pentium or just wait until april. if your buying now id just get the best you you can now; you never know if something will come up later and eat your upgrade funds(this happened to me almost every time i was going to get a new computer since 2007)
