PS3 Laser Issue

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

So I was playing Dark Souls at a friend's house when it froze and I had to force a shutdown. When I powered it back on, it wouldn't recognize any disks. I wound up buying a whole new KEM-400AAA laser and deck, installed it and it then recognized disks. I started playing GT5 and only got about 5 minutes in when it froze and then stopped reading disks just as it did originally.

So I sent it back, got a replacement and what would you know, this one stopped working after 5 minutes too...

Any ideas? I'm starting to think the laser isn't a problem because I doubt it's just that I have this bad of luck with buying lasers. Perhaps something is off with the power supply and it's burning the lasers out right away?

I'm open to any ideas/suggestions. Thanks.

I'm guessing by laser it's a slim model?
If you can backup your hdd n reformat it should work
Only suggesting as I've fixed 4 from my local shop for not reading games properly, reformatted all 4 and only one didn't work( needed new lazer)

Have you got the right lazer for ps3 as diff for diff models

Nope, it's an original, launch day 60GB fattie.

I've tried rebuilding the database but that didn't do it. Would a complete reformat do anything that the rebuild didn't?

If you have spare drive to store your data try quick format as will be quicker but might have do a full 1.
Can't say 100% it's the cause or that it will fix it.

So I reformatted my ps3 and it still doesn't recognize games...

I did notice something new now though. When I turn it on, the blue light flashes and the motors to pull in a disk spin.
This happens with no disk in the drive by the way.

Did you connect up the cables properly and or seat them properly, I would try the original one again.

You sure you got the right part for your model and age, as is diff lazers for diff specs n age

Well, I even did a full reformat (took 7 hours...) rebuilt the file system and just about every other option in the recovery menu. Still no working laser...
It doesn't even spin when I put the disk in.

I know the laser is hooked up correctly and it's the right one because it worked just fine at first. But then after 5 minutes or so it stopped reading disks.
Maybe a cable wiggled loose or something tho; I'll try unplugging and replugging everything soon.
