Upgrading from a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 USB Card. What should I get?

Hey guys,

Well its time for me to sell off this card. Noticed that on Windows 7, it produced 'crackling' sounds at times. I don't think I remember hearing the same on my XP machine a while ago. I read the reviews for the 'PRO' version and similar complaints of the 'crackling' sounds were mentioned. This of course happens with the analog signal.

My budget would be around the $100 range. Also do note that I am from Malaysia, so the only popular brands (that distributors carry) are Creative and Asus for soundcards.

I am getting a HD6990 card soon, so I hope that a PCIE / PCI soundcard would fit in my sig rig. If there are USB solutions, I wouldn't mind getting it as well.

I do not care about gaming so much. I want the sound to be 100% media orientated for movies + tv shows. I read that there is a noticeable difference with THX certified cards, so I hope I could get one, however if THX certified cards are a gimmick, then I would rather not get it. Anyways, what card should I go for? smile.gif

Edit: Currently i am on a 2.1 Setup.

Is THX a gimic? well, yes and no. The products with THX certification will cost significantly more due to them having to be able to be tested and "qualify" for the feature stamp. A well setup system without THX certification can definitely out perform a product that is THX certified. Now go scratch your head on that one.

As for card, it depends on what slot your looking to use. Just get the closest to $100 with a compatable slot and you will be good to go. I have an ASUS DX that I absolutely love.
