Watercooling advice

Thread Starter
I'm planning on buying the parts to watercool a 3930K/Rampage IV Gene setup, within a Fractal Design Arc Mini case.

I've read some articles on watercooling and aware of the parts needed (CPU waterblock, pump, radiator, reservoir & tubes), but still have some questions. Here they are:

1) For radiator, what's the advantage of a dual 120mm fan radiator (one that sits on the upper part of the case for example), over a single fan radiator that would hook to the back of the case (my preference)? Just better cooling ability?

2) Out of all the pumps available I've saw, such as Swiftech, how do you know which one is suitable?

3) How do you know how much distilled water you need? Or is it a case of filling the reservoir, let the system run, then top it up if needed?

4) CPU waterblocks, there's lots of them, but in my case I'd need LGA 2011, is there any preference between EK, Swiftech, etc.?

5) Can you mix and match CPU waterblocks and radiator brands? So could I buy a Swiftech HD CPU waterblock with another brand of radiator?

6) Tubing, I assume the Tygon is the best for anti-kink, do you buy a few feet of it and cut it to fit?

7) Is there any advantage to the radiators that have built in reservoirs? I saw those on the Swiftech site and thought they'd be a good idea to save space. I also saw reservoirs with built-in pumps! Choices, choices.

That's all. Some of these questions I couldn't find answers to elsewhere.

Thanks.

1. more surface area - more cooling, asuming similar FPI
2. The restriction of your loop, and personal preference. silence etc...
3. I duno, enough... I guestimate usualy, just buy a big jug, to have some for when you rebuild.
4. personal preference, read and compare some reviews.
5. yes, but in the case of the HD you wouldn't be able to make a parallel setup.
6. yes, but more than a "few" feet
7. I personaly like seperate res. and pumps so I can swap tops etc.. but it does save space.
smile.gif welcome to watercooling.
On a side note. I hit 100 posts! yay!!
