Random freezes, HELP!

Thread Starter
I have had the Asus P5P43TD board for a while, and having a problem lately. The PC freezes randomly. At first I thought it was a GPU-related problem, as I had flashed my 5750 with the 5770 Vapor-X BIOS, but later when I reflashed it with the stock BIOS, the problem still persisted. Searched about this problem on OCN, and thought it could be a battery related problem, or maybe the CPU heatsink was too tight. Tried every possible way, replaced the batteries a hundred times but still no luck. I don't have a spare GPU so can't test with another, but I don't think it's a GPU related problem anymore, I mean it shouldn't be. Ran memtest and found no problems, ran IBT/P95, found no problems, but the PC still freezes randomly, sometimes at startup, sometimes during post, sometimes BEFORE post, and sometimes when I'm browsing. And when it freezes before post, and after I restart the PC, it says "overclocking failed' even if the CPU was running at stock. I tried with different RAM and different HDDs, but no luck. So could you guys please help me?

Hello smile.gif

I would recommend if you haven't already fully running your system at stock settings for the time being, just for diagnostic purposes. You can do this by going into the BIOS and loading optimized defaults, or resetting the CMOS.

Now, have you only been freezing, or have you been BSOD'ing as well? If so, please zip up and attach your dump files to your next post. As far as memtest86+ goes, if both sticks pass while running together in dual channel, PLEASE run each stick individually as well for no more than 3-4 passes.

I tried loading optimized defaults, but changed the SATA mode from IDE to AHCI. Other than that, everything was set to defaults. And there was no BSODs, just a freeze.

Check your CPU and Ram voltages even after i set my bios back to default some times the voltage would not change to what it is meant to be, in my experience crash while my PC is trying to load windows was my CPU vcore set to low on my overclock, perhaps when you set your bios to default some reason it not letting your CPU get enough volts.
For me if windows crashed on boot looking like THIS It was Always Vcore set to low

or
Maybe a bad driver or something trying to load causes your system to Freeze, do you have another computer you can copy your irreplaceable stuff too and do a clean install of windows

I personally experienced problems similar to yours when messing around with IDE/AHCI settings in my Storage Config BIOS settings. Might be worth playing around with more.
