Switching to 3 monitors soon, what should I expect for performance drop?

I have 2x 2Gb 6950's unlocked to 1536 shaders, which can play any game at max settings with at least 60 fps at 1080p. When I get 2 more monitors in the mix, how much less performance should I expect? I know that the GPU's have to render 3x as much, so is it 1/3 the fps? Do you think that the games will be playable at that point? (Skyrim, BF3, etc.)

Hey buddy smile.gif

With the 2x 2GB cards, even though the vRAM doesn't add up, you actually shouldn't have a drastic performance decrease, but it will be a decrease, especially if the monitors are 1080p. Right now, there are very few games I can even play with eyefinity enabled considering I currently have 2 5850s (both 1GB cards).

It doesn't bother me really because I didn't just get 2x more monitors for gaming alone, I also got it for the real estate as far as browsing in general goes, which you will love.

I can make an estimate and say that with those cards, you won't be able to max out any games with three 1080p monitors at its recommended res, however, you will be able to at least have the game fairly high in settings.

Basically none-low AA/AF, lower res, no modded textures, slightly lower shadows, etc to keep 60 fps or to not have it be terrible like 20 fps?

Right. You're going to have to do a lot of playing around with certain video games to obtain desirable FPS. I would say you won't be able to use anything but 1x 2xaa, and low AF, as well as other disabled extra eye candy.

Yeah that's not a huge deal, AA makes little difference to me if it increases my fps by 10, same with af and shadows. lowering res would be the biggest thing imo, but does lowering the res to 1680/900 or whatever that widescreen res is warp the game image?
