You can use any of your files fine like music, pictures, etc, programs however you need to reinstall.

Have you never reinstalled the OS before?

You will be able to use your computer, but your programs on your old HDD will need to be reinstalled, as you are doing a fresh install. It'll be like if you bought a computer, it doesn't have anything on it. Than you take an external HDD and plug it in. Yes you will have all your pictures and things available, but if a program is installed on it, it won't run until you install it for that operating system. Here's a slightly different analogy: when you switch cars, you use a different key. Your other key works for the other car still though.

well thank for the analogy. and simplifying things. I understand it now. Though im stuck with the problem of moving everything I had from a "Suv to an pinto" lmao . Im not really sure what would be an essential program to have on an SSD. Would I have to move ALL of my game there? not nearly enough room. would i move my web browsers?

Well you can't "move" your web browser, you need to reinstall it. Games from steam you can leave on the HDD after the reinstall on the SSD. That also goes for all your personal files, leave them on the HDD.

Look over my optimization guide, if you disable hibernation file and shrink the page file to 1GB or so and such you will get a ton of room back. Windows only takes up 10GB for me after updates and all.
