Putting a new gaming build together, thoughts pls? :)

Hi!

Can I get your thoughts pls on this build? Main points being the cooling options at bottom and the processor... thank you! ;-)

Processor smile.gif
Intel® Core i7-2600K Processor Socket-LGA1155, Quad Core, 3.4Ghz, 8MB, 95W, Boxed w/fan
//Cheaper processor// - is the performance difference enough to go for i7 2600k? note OC plan down below
Intel® Core i5-2500K Processor Socket-LGA1155, Quad Core, 3.3Ghz, 6MB, 95W, Boxed w/fa

Corsair SSD Force Series 3, 120GB 2.5" SATA 6 Gb/s (SATA3.0), 550MB/510MB/s read/writ

Optional... I'd like to OC the processor to something very safe and simple, somewhere 4.1-4.5 ish. I'm a complete noob at OC so I need to keep it as simple as possible. Thoughts on using water instead of air for this plan? smile.gif

i5 2500k and i7 2600k will give you very very similar performances in GAMING.

I would go for 2500k.

I have it overclocked at 4.5 Very easy and safe.

However a very good CPU cooler could be very helpful as the stock CPU cooler that comes with the CPUs are not so great for OCing

Also I would go for a OCed 570.

MSI Twin Frozr III 570 maybe?

I had it before, its quiet, cool and very good overall

Looks pretty good... but No the 2600k will not really out preform the 2500k when it comes to gaming. What other things do want to do with the PC?

With the overclock goal that you have in mind, you could get away with a heatsink and fan solution like this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

But overclocking is like crack cocaine and soon enough you will find yourself wanting more biggrin.gif so a pre-built water cooling system is a good choice altogether. All up to you really.

go for the 2500k the extra performance probably wont be worth the extra money you'd spend on it.
i've got my 2500k overclocked to 5 on a custom water setup.
I had air previously and a half decent air cooler can easily do 4.1 - 4.5
you thought about maybe a 6950 instead of a 570?
I recently went to the msi frozr iii 6950 PE, unlocked the extra shaders and i can say i'm rather impressed with it.
hopefully good...

Hi all... wow! thanks for the info smile.gif

Based on your input I'll downgrade the processor to i5 2500K (saves me 600 danish kroner!).

...and upgrade to a:
MSI GeForce GTX 570 1280MB PhysX PCI-Express 2.0, "Twin Frozr III PE", GDDR5, 2xDVI, native-miniHDMI, 770MHz
(costs me 400 danish kroner)

I'll go w/ the Antec water cooling option. Although it only cools the CPU... will OC on the graphic card still be possible leaving it just with fansrolleyes.gif?

As for uses of this PC, it'll be mainly gaming... otherwise just internet browsing, some ASP.NET programming, and serving as a media server for my PS3 to pull from.

(my graphics options are these, just as fyi... I'm an intel/nvidia fan, don't go much for amd or ati.... not out of any technical reason... just a personal thing biggrin.gif)

Yes you can still overclock the graphics just not as far as you could on water, just make sure you watch your temps.
FYI i was always an nvidia man myself, just thought i'd try the 6950 for a bit of a change tongue.gif
hopefully good...
