[OFFICIAL] AMD Phenom II x4 Deneb CPU Owner's Club - Page 34

Cooler is a Scythe Katana 3
1.200V at 700MHz (undervolt/underclock with k10stat, I have Speedfan set to turn the fan off under 50C)
1.392V at 3.5GHz
Ambients will be close to 30C its summer here now - probably 28C
Antec 300 case with 3 12cm fans up front, 2 stock fans at rear

It is now idling at 41C underclocked at 700MHz. During gaming at 3.5GHz it will ramp up to 63C or so, so really pushing the limit of the cooler.

I think the heat sink on the Scythe Katana 3 is just too small to handle a 125W cpu, as it was running nice and cool on my 95W x3 720. Another thing that might be affecting it is that I have read that the thermal paste needs time to set in? Its Arctic Silver, and I reseated the cooler yesterday as I wasn't happy with the temps - no noticeable change though.

Either way, 3.5GHz quad is more than fast enough for my 6950, so I'm happy for now. Any other tips to reduce temps would be great though, without having to purchase a new HSF.

I see a lot of people just increasing the multiplier and not the FSB. You get much more performance if you increase the FSB as much as possible and then up the multiplier. Increasing the FSB also increases you memory speed. I increased my FSB from 200 to 240, which increased my memory from 1333MHz to 1600MHz (also my memory timings are much less than standard 1600 MHz memory). That brought my CPU MHz to 3840, then I increased my multiplier from 16 to 17 which took it to 4080 MHz. A comp at 240x17 (4080MHz) will be faster than one at 200 x 20.5 (4100MHz). Your memory may not be able to handle that much OC but you should definitely be able to get your FSB to somewhere between 210-230 MHz. I had to raise the voltage to 1.45 to get to the 4.1 GHz range. I can run it at 3960 MHz (18x220) with standard voltage (1.4)

I have a very inexpensive and OC unfriendly Motherboard (according to reviews I see about it). But I managed some quite good OCing (IMHO). I can run it at 230x18 (4140 MHz) but I think 17x240 is a better balance and it is working great.

Just my 2c

Woah, 4.4ghz with 1.7v?  What cooling was that on? If it was sub-zero, please kill that chip, it doesn't deserve to live.

True - I could never get S3 sleep working with any change in FSB. Why is this? The system feels snappier however with FSB changes, if sleep is ignored.
