nahh...sometimes it's better to go higher with it smile.gif
all depends on the chip.

Increasing HT doesn't do much for performance, so drop it a notch and keep it between 1800 to 2000. Keep pushing the FSB up until it craps out, and note the bsod code. It may be your RAM maxxing out or your CPU.

Ok so I raised the FSB to 220 and lowered the RAM speed one step. I also set the CPU-NB and HTT so that they are now 1980MHz both. I ran Prime95 for 10mins with no problems.

As you might see I still have cool'n quiet enabled but I don't want my CPU to run max clocks all the time. But if it's better off then I'll just disable it. So what next?

Take it off for now, as you don't want it messing with your OC. You can run K10stat through Windows later instead - it offers more flexibility than CnQ.

Next up your NB a notch or two to get it around 2400-2500. Then keep pushing the FSB up as far as you want to go (adding voltage as you go) while keeping an eye on temps. That's pretty much it - and a lot of patience.

Attached an Excel file I used while FSB overclocking. Set your NB and ram multis in the cell at the top, and see what speed they will run at what FSB. Your temps seem fine at 100% load so you can probably up the FSB and voltage a tad more to get around 3.6?

Exactly what voltages should I increase? CPU of course, but anything else? Also should I increase volts after the OC crashes/fails or right away when I go to the BIOS to raise my FSB? What are the max/safe voltages? And What speeds should I keep my RAM? redface.gif

Alright guys. I am working on a little more overclocking on my 955BE chip. C3 Revsison and I am at a bit of a stump.

I have my cpu overclocked to 3.97Ghz----Bios Voltage is set.... offset at - .0625v which gives me a voltage of 1.38-1.39 under 100% load with LLC set to super high. 24hr prime 95 stable.

I put new ram into my pc and decided to give the NB and RAM a look just for $hits and giggles. For some reason I am not able to get my nb overclock stable when im running my ram at its stock 1866mhz..

I am trying to get it stable at about 2700mhz. Next step up would be about 3000mhz and forget about even booting up with anyting under about 1.35v CPU/NB. Is this becasue of the crappy memory controller on the Denab chips? I noticed that if i up my DRAM voltage a tad I can stabilize the nb overclock a bit. But what is the max voltage I can run through my RAM? They are rated at 1866mhz 9-10-9-24 @ 1.5v. They are currently running at about 1.55v in windows(BIOS RAM Voltage at auto) according to HwInfo64. Can I up the voltage to 1.6 in windows safely? Will it do anything to degrade the life or performance of the RAM?

And whats the safe limit on the CPU/NB voltage?

At this monent I am 20hrs prime 95 stable with the above cpu overclock. 2700 nb (1.24-1.26v under load) and ram about 1550mhz running at the stock voltage.

My goal is to hit as close to 3000mhz on the nb as possible(if possible with these chips) and 1866 with possibly 8-8-8-20(?) on the ram.

ideas? suggestions?

Although I'm unsure of exactly what memory ICs your RAM uses, I am sure that you could run 1.7v through them all day, every day without them degrading, so 1.6v wouldn't be a problem at all.  (I regularly do 1.85v on air with my ram for my C3 955 and they haven't degraded one bit in the past few years).

For CPU/NB, you can run it up to whatever voltage your CPU vcore is at.  If I were you I would just run 1.45v vcore, and 1.40v cpu/nb, and see how it goes from there.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220737

that is the memory i have...if that helps.

anyway, i played around with everything and i cannot get stable running 2781mhz on the nb and 1866 on my ram. I tried different combinations of voltages on both going all the way to 1.65v on the ram and 1.41v on the cpu/nb. Longest i was able to hold prime was about 15min. Temps on the cpu were getting a little toasty as well. hit 50C within that time. Which means once my mbient picks up a tad or my gpu heats up thatll really get warm.

I think instead ill stick with 2781mhz NB and 1544mhz on the Ram and try to tighten up the timings. Im running them at 9-9-9-24 right now. I should be able to squeeze out 8-8-8-20 1T because they're running below stock voltage right? and now, when im testing my stability with tightening up the timings, do i run memtet86? or do i still just prime? Ive never really played with ram timings before. any tips/tricks?
