Is your NB stock at current? An OCd NB delivers a major performance increase in everything, from normal desktop response to gaming. Definitely worth it, but it will throw another spanner in the works in terms of stability. You should be able to get to 2.4Ghz without too much trouble. From there up it will require more tinkering with NB and memory voltages, and perhaps CPU volts. If you have a C3, you can probably get in excess of 2.7Ghz with enough tinkering.

Also, 32min Prime95 is OK for a quick pass, but the hardcore OC nuts here will suggest an overnight 8-hour or even 24-hour pass to ensure complete stability.

My NB is currently 2,1GHz. I was aware that 32mins is just to test if it's somewhat stable. And also I have C3. So what numbers should I get with stock voltage?
First, do you have a separate NB multi and voltage control in your BIOS

As for speeds and volts, well that depends on each individual chip, mobo and other peripherals so it is a difficult question to answer. I have only played with C2 chips and a single power plane mobo so my numbers probably won't mean much to you. For reference, CPU 3.3Ghz and NB 2.4Ghz require 1.28V or so in CPUz (BIOS is set to 1.35V, ***). My single power plane board means that CPU and NB volts have to be the same, so you might have more flexibility in this regard.

I haven't seen NB multi anywhere in my BIOS but I saw the NB voltage control there.

Hey guys! I figured instead of starting a new thread, I'll just ask here. I have been looking at Phenom ii x4 965 BE and the new FX 6300. Currently the FX 6300 cost $40 more in Microcenter. Is it worth the additional cost?

Well 1st, do you have a motherboard that supports the FX-6300 (piledriver)?

According to CPU support list it does support piledriver since bios P1.30. However that board is 3+1 phase. Your overclock headroom is slim to none before that board will probably fry.

I'm not saying it's a bad board. If your price range is ~$60 then well any mATX board is probably 3+1. 3+1 is just not very safe for overclocking. If you're not overclocking then it isn't very important.

As far as gaming goes, stock for stock I think they score about the same. The FX-6300 will OC much higher though but as I said with a mATX 3+1 board it's not a good idea.

Here's a FX-6300 and X4-980(3.7ghz): http://www.techspot.com/review/586-amd-fx-8350-fx-6300/page6.html and http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/57615-amd-vishera-fx-6300-fx-4300-review-10.html
