What will I gain going from 3.6 to 4.O? Will there be a noticeable difference when gaming?

This is not worth troubleshooting with BIOS settings unless you have unusually high VCORE.

51C idle?!? mad.gif This is a contact issue, the pump isn't plugged in or something. This is performing substantially worse than the stock cooler, indicating user error on installation or whacko-bios settings.

Hey guys. Just got a quick question, didn't want to make a whole separate thread for it.

I'm trying to flash the BIOS on the board I just got for my 955. I have a 890FXA-GD70 and I got it used, was on the default BIOS when I got it. Trying to update the BIOS I got from MSI.com but I tried a couple and before flashing, I keep getting this message saying "rom-id mismatch, flash anyway?". Now, obviously I was quite tempted to select Yes, but I wanted to double-check before messing up the board. I know it's a GD70 BIOS, but I tried 2 different ones and I keep getting that message. Just wondering if it's normal. Any help would be appreciated smile.gif

Obviously that doesn't sound normal.. You'd be better off posting in a club that is specifically for your motherboard series.
Don't do it, that's a very bad idea. It's exactly as you say "double-check before messing up the board". -_-;

You should never get that message. How are you flashing? In windows utility? Something else?

You can find out here I'm sure. http://forum-en.msi.com

They're a bit strict on their posting rules but good at solving problems.

Yeah I had my finger on Enter and was a split second away, because I've had id-mismatch errors when flashing my GPU's BIOS before, when flashing to a BIOS from a different vendor, and nothing terrible happened. But I never got that message when doing a motherboard, so, wanted to ask first. I think I found the club thread, but no one had posted in it for a long time, so I tried the Deneb club because I didn't want to start a whole new thread for what I hoped would be a short and simple answer.

I was using the BIOS's utility, M-Flash.

Thanks, I guess I'll take a shot at it there. Not sure what it could be though. I know I got it from the 890FXA-GD70 section at MSI.com confused.gif

It's nothing with the pump, as prior my new wc setup I was running a 3w pump 300l/h with a modded one fan Zalman semi-passive Reserator. I had it oc:d then and could reach 80-85 under load.

I just did a proper wc setup 360mm and added the Laing 18w pump, but I kept the Zalman block which I know I set up properly, besides the block now isn't even hot at 55° when I touch it.
BIOS settings are stock. I don't know why the CPU is performing bad while all other things are good, MOSFET/NB>SB>GPU.

I have the 890GXM-G65 and it's been a couple years since the last bios and I can't remember if it had a warning like that. I did get it from msi though.
Better safe than sorry and see if someone knows for sure.

So you have a 360mm rad and a nice pump. Are you only cooling the cpu or gpu as well? Your temps are very bad. My dinky little Antec Kuhler 620 cools my 955 @4ghz.

Right now idling 4ghz 1.472V and rad fans at 1000rpm (max is 1500) I'm getting 42-43C core temp. Ambient is around 26C.

Something must be wrong. You have tons of surface area with a 360mm rad... my guess is that cpu block. Is there anyway you can buy a more common block, maybe used.

I'm getting a new block and will report back my new temps.

Either it's just a bad performance block, or it has been degraded by corrosion.
