Front Intake 200mm Fan making crackling noises?

Hello OCN,

So today after a day of golfing and watching the Superbowl.. I went on ahead to turn on my PC, as it turned on, a loud crackling sound came from my PC. I panicked but later to find out that it's coming from my front intake fan.. (CM Megaflow 200mm fan).

First thing I did was to open up my case to see if any wires are in the way of the fan, nope.

Second thing I did was to use canned air and try to unclog any dust that might be causing the noise, nope.

I don't know what to do now.. What could be the problem? Few hours ago everything was fine.

I did not install the fan myself, it came already installed with the CoolerMaster Storm Enforcer case. As of now I just unplugged it from the fan header because it was so noisy...Any advice?

Thanks.

Take your fan out of the case housing and run it. If the noise has ceased, there was an installation issue, If its still noisey, look into a replacement.

What a coincidence. my 200mm top case fan has the exact same problem. I took it out of the case, but its still making power-drill like sounds. I had it only for a year, but it was always running at 100% because the POWER_FAN header on my mobo has no manual controll. IDK what ASUS was thinking when they made that header -.-

Would a warranty cover this or should I try to fix the fan myself?
