First Time Overclocking: AMD Phenom II X6 1045T - Page 7

to a tiny degree lifespan, if you dnt overvolt it
if you raise, youll get stability (to a point) and if you lower, youll get better temps (to a point)
not much else.
just more draw on ur psu.

Awesome. Hopefully I can keep it pretty low. How long do you generally test for stability when you're adjusting voltage?

If you ask the people around here they will tell you stable = 12 hours of prime, however I just run 20 passes of LinX on max memory. If it passes then I'm good, if not I change stuff and try again.

LinX:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?201670-LinX-A-simple-Linpack-interface

Keep in mind this will raise your temps about 10C higher than prime most of the time, so if your cooling cannot handle it don't bother.

if you have a real problem it usually shows up in like 10 minutes, but i would test for an hour.
when your done overclocking run it for a day or so , just to be sure

Okay, cool. Would the LinPack setting on OCCT work the same as LinX?

EDIT: I got the download to work, so please disregard that question.

I did 20 hours of Prime95 when I had all six cores going at 3.2GHz, so I know those settings were pretty stable if I need to go back a step.

So I benchmarked it in NovaBench as a quad core @ 3.5GHz and got a 723, so I decided to revert it back to a six core @ 3.2GHz because I got an 822 with those settings. I just set the voltage to 1.300V, so hopefully it will prove to be stable at that temperature and will stay a little bit cooler.

1.3V should be fine with the stock cooler.

this will only show up in highly threaded apps such as crysis 2 and battlefield 2 and benchmarks
youll get lower fps for games like crysis, call of duty, and BF BC2, as well as web browsing and other such things.

youll get lower fps for games like crysis, call of duty, and BF BC2, as well as web browsing and other such things.

Is there a good free program out there that will make a synthetic benchmark in regards to the gaming performance rather than just a general benchmark? I'd like to do a comparison between those two sets of settings when they're benchmarked for games. I know that FRAPS is a good one, but it requires actually playing a game for testing, and I'd rather just do a quick synthetic test.

Okay. Can I go lower or might that be an issue?
