A new CPU cooler would allow for higher clocks, but you will probably be VRM limited around 1.4V on the CPU. Not sure what kind of VRM protection that board has, but it is a unheatsinked 4+1 phase which isn't good, but not super terrible. I suggest whatever you end up doing, to stay under 1.4V on the CPU.. otherwise you risk damaging the motherboard. You could very well hit 4GHz with 1.4V though.

I'm going to heatsink the VRMs if I decide to push it further with a tower cooler; I'm not sure if I'm going to heatsink the VRMs with a top-flow cooler, though.

A heatsink will help cool them, but regardless they are still a 4+1 phase and can only handle so much voltage regulation. I still stand by my suggestion.

Ah, okay; I'll be sure to keep the CPU voltage at or below 1.400V no matter what then.

Also, are there temperature sensors for the VRMs, or will I have to estimate the temperatures based on the other motherboard components' temperatures?

I don't believe there are VRM sensors even on the highest end boards. Most good boards have VRM protection though and will throttle/shut down the computer if they are on the edge of failure. Not sure about 880GM boards though.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Two of my motherboard sensors (1 & 2) are reading temperatures in the 60-62°C range, so I wasn't sure if one of those were for the VRMs (no labels); everything else is staying cooler than that, though, and the next highest temperature is 50°C for the CPU as of now.

just look up the meanings of temps on the program u use, you shud find it. i do believe there are mosfet (the chips in the vrm) temps

I'm using HW Monitor; it doesn't list where the sensors are located from what I can tell.

It seems to be staying pretty stable and reasonably cool (maxed out at 52°C) at the current settings, and I'm running Prime95 overnight just to be sure.

Settings:
  • CPU Clock Ratio-- x13.5
  • CPU Clock-- 3375 MHz
  • NB Multiplier-- x8
  • NB Freq.-- 2000 MHz
  • FSB-- 250
  • HT Link Multiplier-- x8
  • HT Freq.-- 2000 MHz
  • Memory Multiplier-- x5.33
  • Memory Clock-- 1332 MHz
  • CPU Voltage-- 1.250V
  • All Other Voltages-- Normal Settings
