Hey OCN,

I'm a noob, so don't be surprised if this is a stupid question, but I was wondering if it's okay to have my HDD chilling on the bottom of my case with no tray keeping it locked into place?

I have these rubber bumper things I can put on the edges of the HDD or on the case so that it stays in place.

As you can see from the pictures, I removed two HDD trays and the black box on the bottom of the Corsair 600t case so that the white fan is no longer blocked by them. I'll be getting a second GTX 460 also, and I want some extra cooling in between them because the top card's fans won't be in use, so this was also a step towards adding more fans along the side.

Any advice? Is it okay to have my HDD like this?

Also, In the picture with the USB and some type of fan header looking thing.. They both come from the Corsair 600t case. Where do they plug in and what do they do?

Thanks for feedback!

for your images, you should do a (IMG)IMGURL(/IMG) format (with brackets, of course.)

as for your hard drives, try placing the caddy in the middle of your case, like shown here in my case

sorry, it's out of focus.

edit: these are better examples

edit2: the USB thing is for USB 3. You would route that to the rear IO and plug it into a USB 3 port (or USB 2 if you don't have a USB3, you will just get 2.0 speeds on that port.) this link right here may help with the other wire, as my 650D does not have it.

Thanks, I'll do that. And sadly I can't mount my HDD tray next to the PSU because I routed a lot of thick cables through a hole in a way that it sorta blocks that spot, as you can see in the 2nd picture. I assume all I need is a way to keep my HDD in place so it doesn't become unplugged or bounce off the case walls, so is there a simpler way to do this, or maybe one that takes up less space?

Thanks for the help man, means a lot

I would assume that you can toss it up in your 5.25" bays, or if you move the cage where I said, place the drive up top and fit the cables through that hole. There should be room for just one drive there. Best of luck!

Shot with iPhone4, sorry for the crap quality (lazy to pull my D90 out).

I took these HDD bay bracket from my 690 II Advanced and have my 3.5" HDD mounted in the drive bays. I'm sure you can find these on the market if you want to have a clear space at the bottom of your chassis.

Thanks for the feedback! I tossed my hdd up in the disk drive bays on the bottom, the sata wiring feels a little awkward and tight but I think it'll stay put for now. Tomorrow I'll try putting a mounting bracket on it and trying different angles and such to see if it stays put. I imagine it will be more difficult and look worse than your setup because I have a disk drive on top, so I'm using 1 SATA power cable to connect to both, which may be iffy.

Are you able to put the front mesh piece back on? If so, it's perfect for me, but if not it looks pretty weird :S

Yes, I just took it off to show where it is mounted. Everything close up perfectly. The SATA cable can be wired to the closest grommet. And for the temperature, it won't matter; it will not hit 50'C anyhow.

In the old school days, most HDD used to mounted inside the disk bay when we are still using IDE cable. That's what these brackets are for. It is non-swappable but why would I pull it out?
