hello. i have an older system. but im slowly buying stuff for my new build..
next on my list is a SSd and an new GPU.
THe idea is to keep my current system funtional as long as possible...
so basically gonna get CPU and MB last.

i've been an Nvidia fanboy four like 5 years now. I've never had any other GPU other than nvidia products... i hear lots about the AMD and ATI but not sure what i should invest in.. Your thoughts... currently running GTS 250.. 1GB. So im looking at a pretty big upgrade.. i'd like to keep this under 250$ and still be able to have fantastic gaming preformance..

Is the 250 dollars for the GPU only or the SSD as well?

If you can wait then I would wait until the next generation of Nvidia cards come out which should be around April. If you can wait till Kepler the same amount of money will bring you a better performing card than it would today. If you must upgrade today I would probably recommend this MSI GTX 560ti 448 Cores for $260 after promo code and rebate. It should be just about the best performing card in your price range.
