I want to build a gaming rig

Hi there, Im new to the forums and I really want to build a gaming rig by my self, I don't mess with hardware alot so I will need your help guys. '

first of all I have a P4 640 in my current desktop, and let me tell you, Its the worst processor I have ever used. I heard good things about AMD and I would really like to give them a try but with C2D out I really don't know and want to know what is your opinion about this.

So I would want a nice case with lights and stuff like that, LOL (for the kid in me) , and also a decent Dualcore processor that I could overclock, and I haven't OC'd anything in my life but I will try. Yea and I have a question also, can I build a decent gaming rig in shuttle case ? I want it to be as small as possible, because I hate big cases.

second is the mobo and gpu, I hear about crossfire and all that? what is it? and I would like a gpu with SLI but Im afraid my budget wont allow that, its about 1300$, but I could bump it a bit if its worth it, the X1900XT and 7900GTX is cool, I have used nVidia once and it was great, Im not sure about ATI so you could suggest either of 'em I dont care as long as Its good. And about the mobo, whatever, I don't really know about em, but a mobo that can hold the most ram and also support SLI incase I didn't go with that and wanted to upgrade later.

also the hdd, I really use alot of space in my pc, so I would like as much space as i can, and how many hdd's can I add to my pc?

now I don't really know about the other stuff, but I have 2GB of kingston ram in my old desktop, i think its PC4200 or something, Ill get back to you about that. And If possible I want internal bluetooth and wireless and memory card reader.

I don't know if Im dreaming to build a pc with this budget, but I thought Id ask. I don't want monitor because shipping it to my country would cost a fortune, although I would like a 19" WUXGA monitor, but I dont know if they exist.

I appreciate you feedback guys,

A.J.

C2D 6300 or 6400 would be the way to go with a ds3 board. As for the video card, a 7600gt or something along those lines until dx10 comes out will be your best bet.

i dont want a 7600gt ? I really want a powerful card, to last me a year atlest, I saw this on amazon :

http://www.amazon.com/Geforce-7950-G...&s=electronics

its scary though, and expensive also.

also, is it better to get 2 gpu's with decent power now, to hold me for like 6 months or a year and then exchange them for DX10 cards ? Im not a big fan of waiting. and I really dont care about DX10.

the E6400 has 2mb cache right ? would it matter ? and whats the max i can overclock this thing to ?

I prefer amazon for buying this stuff, as other companies like newegg wont deal with people outside of the us.

Well, new technology will be out in about half a year,so theres no point in spending toomuch cash. Thats why i suggested the 7600gt.

dude, new technology is coming out all the god damn time,i mean they sell 65 NM chips now but 45nm chips are already in the making/testing with both AMD and Intel
soo waiting for newer techology is forever because there will allways be soemthing newer
+ i wouldnt recommend buying any of the first dx10 cards because they will be buggy and laggy and probably have 100X more bugs then they promise they will
also buying a powerfull card now will allow you to play all your favorite/want to play games easily! i mean i have a 6600le and i know that stuff are coming out, like all those hot shot games AKA crysis and cell factor, that require on additional AGEIA phyx card, soo Adabi you better buy a good GPU now, like the 7900GTX/7950gx2 witch just pwns or a nice X1950 witch is also nice
the allendale proccesors are GREAT for everything, multitasking gaming and overclocking soo i suggest you get the E6400 allendale, its a good proccesor that overclocks like mad.
and the diffrence between 2mb l2 cache and 4 mb l2 cache isnt THAT huge as i hear.

Marager, thats exactly what I was thinking, there will always be a new technology in the horizon.

Thanks for the suggestion, Ill probably buy a X1950, I like the 7950Gx2 but I read in a review somewhere that the X1950 beat it in some tests, and also that the difference between X1900XT and X1950XT is not that huge.

So guys, any suggestions on the hardware, Im being ignored here, Lol.

Hm I could be wrong but I think that the Asus A8n-32 sli deluxe has built in wireless and bluetooth, so if thats what you wanted you could get that. It's AMD though. If you are going to be getting 7950gx2s I wouldn't advise getting a shuttle case as they will produce lots of heat esp. if you overclock and if the case is too small it'll overheat. With DX10 coming up, maybe you should just buy a 7900gt/gtx because I saw a couple of them for around 300 total which isn't that bad. You could just overclock it and it'll last you a while until DX10 becomes good, then you could just get a DX10 card. But thats just my opinion

thanks dexterousdeven, that sounds great really, if anyone could confirm about the asus mobo it would be awesome, and also, is it a good mobo for overclocking ? and also is there an intel version of it, I think Im set on getting a E6600 and would like to know the potenital of this cpu,

and also, Im leaning more towards the ATi, maybe a X1900 or something. and I would really like to run SLI if my budget allows it.

yea and I have 2GB of kingston ram (Kingston 1GB DDR400 C3 KIT OF 2 ( KVR400X64C3AK2), is this old, can i use for my new rig.

Guys I would appreciate it if you recommended some parts and link them if you can. What would be a good combo for my price range ? which is about 1300$

Yes I think there is, its called the Asus p5w deluxe I'm not sure. And ATI does not have SLI, thats for Nvidia only. You're probably thinking of crossfire, which is the dual video card solution for ATI. Ill try to get some parts for you: Asus p5w deluxe http://www.bk-computer.com/ASUS_P5W_...-id-10399.html, I don't know if that store is good though so heres one from zipzoomfly which is pretty good because they offer free shipping on most items: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...t=pricegrabber.

I would go with 2GB of DDR2- 667 RAM. Since you are overclocking, no need to shell out more for DDR2 800.
