I want to build a gaming rig - Page 2

thanks dexter, this one looks like a good mobo. how is it at overclocking ? and about crossfire, do I just buy a crossfire card, or do I have to buy 2 cards ? Im new to all of this, do you think I could manage to build a good rig with 1300$ ?

I see, so mine wont work 'cause its DDR 400. Ok, I dont think im getting DDR2 800 because im on a budget.

Ok guys just forget the monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers and all that, I just need a case with good components, this is gonna stay with me for atleast 2 years so its gotta be good, and I could increase the budget a bit, so feel free to add more components if its worth it.

A.J.

For crossfire you don't need two of the same cards like SLI. All you need is one ATI card(doesn't matter what model) and one "crossfire" edition card. Then you could run crossfire. So what you can do is buy a crossfire card right now and when you have more money buy another ATI card. The thing with crossfire is that it will use the same settings, such as if you have one card with 16 pipelines and one card with 12 pipelines, the card with more pipelines will underclock itself to 12 pipelines. Dunno if that will help but yeah. So yes, you do need two cards. And for 1300 you can build a really good rig if your just buying a box (just the case and the inside ocmponents). With the asus mobo and the C2D 36600 you can get a pretty good overclock, my friend got his to 3.2 ghz but that was with water cooling.

Glad to be of assistance. Well this card looks good http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102051 and its a crossfire edition card. If you would rather have 512 mb this ones decent http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814142064. This one clock speed isn't that high but if you are on a budget this would be ok i guess http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102022. Keep in mind that prices are always changing so check www.pricegrabbers.com often for the lowest prices and check the stores reliabilty at www.reselleratings.com

You guys have just about covered everything, but in answer to your question about HDs, there's nothing that says you *can't* have three hard drives, but more than two are said to cause instability.

okay guys here's what I chose, yet to order anything. need a confirmation :

Mobo : ASUS P5W DH Deluxe Digital Home Series :

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...=UTF8&v=glance

CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo 2.40GHZ E6600 :

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...X0DER&v=glance

Ram : OCZ Enhanced Latency Dual Channel Platinum XTC Edition - Memory - 2 GB :

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...BZJQ6&v=glance

GPU : Radeon X1900 Xtcrossfire 512MB Connect3d :

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...BZJQ6&v=glance

I can only buy from amazon, as newegg and tigerdirect doesnt do business with international customers.

The problem is that I haven't even got a case or psu or a cooling solution if needed. What am I missing ?

Are those parts compatible ? do you think I should change any of this, feel free to suggest anything, as long as its available at amazon.

Well by using pricegrabbers you could maybe find stores that cater to international customers that might have cheaper products. And for the radeon card I hear that the fan is really loud and noisy so you might want to replace it. Theres a really good one that I can't recall right now, I think its the VF-900 or something like that. If you have money I would suggest a full tower case, such as a Thermaltake Shark or Tsunami. But you would have to buy a seperate PSU. Some cases will come with a PSU, but it will ususally not be enough to power your rig.

http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-VA...&s=electronics

I'd recomment this PSU: http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-PowerStrea...715918?ie=UTF8
