Mostly because MMOs are actually moving away from subscriptions. The first 20 levels of WoW/Rift are free, and Guild Wars 2 has no subscription at all.

Call of Duty (not the series, the game) and Call of Duty: United Offensive did an AWESOME job of this, as did counter strike/source. Everything is just going away from awesomeness like that.

screw that, I miss the days when you bought a game worth your money, got your money's worth out of it and some months later an actual expansion pack came out.

I am a Battlefield fanboy but i refuse to pay for a subscription service. I will however pay for DLC as long as the content is good.

Oh the good days.

Almost every game in the last five years have been honestly disappointing when it comes to good content and creativity. Only speaking of Mainstream games mind you, I know indie developers are different.

i have always loved the BF series...im a true loyalist to the series but if they actually bring out an "elite service" im done with it...Im sorry but i thought it was a dumb idea for COD and i still think its dumb idea...sorry EA but if this happens, you just lost one of your most loyal of players...

I refuse to pay to play an FPS....

To be clear, there is no way BF3 is going to become a subscription based game.

Simply some kind of added things where you GET DLCs based on a monthly bill instead of buying them separately, or getting DLCs early. Other than that I'm sure nothing will change.

Still though, I do not think this is a good idea for BF3. What works for COD is not also going to work for BF3. Perhaps if EA could give is a really solid list of details about the subscription, like how many DLCs, when they will come out and how much content they will have, then maybe however I doubt that will happen.

lol at the people thinking you have to pay2play. No, CoD Elite is not pay2play. Cod Elite is a service in which you pay $50 a year and you get all the dlc within that year for free. You also get more in depth stats, and clan creation and all that unneeded stuff. It's optional. You can still buy regular dlc, just elite people get it a bit earlier.

Well, Valve is still keeping it real. CS GO im getting.

I can definitely see this as being the norm. I mean, Quake Live already has something like this going, now Call of Duty, and I think it will be more common as time goes on. The only reason why I wouldn't like a subscription-based game would be because of how much I would have to pay a month. I wouldn't mind a few bucks a month (probably no more than $5) but if it's anything more I probably wouldn't subscribe. I also forgot to mention it would also depend on how much I would have to pay for the game upfront; I definitely wouldn't subscribe after dropping $60 on a game, that's way too much IMO.
