i went from a 5970 .... and much smoother ... lower fps ... basically you get more vram less power drawn.. bf3 plays smoother but kind of pricey for vram ..

I'm on a 27" 1920x1080 120hz monitor ... on med seeting v sync on ... 80-120 ... I'll likely go 7990 and trifire when the time is right... i think you should be okay with 1 7970 for 60 fps depending on your monitor size.
