Opinion, You guys think an 1100t will bottleneck a 7950 gpu?

Thread Starter
Like the title says, i'm debating either ditching my AM3 socket setup for a socket 1155 build, but the budget is tight, and my current cpu is phenom iix2 555be I'm aiming at the xfx black edition 7950, but the best cpu for my board atm is an 1100t, i'd hate to spend the money and have it bottleneck the gpu. I know the gains the 2500k has over the 1100t, especially for gaming, wich is what i primarily do with this pc. The other thought was going with am am3+ and gettin a faildozer on a 990fx board, most likely the sabertooth, wich helps the budget a tad more. If i didn't need a nice PSU upgrade this would be easier, but what say you? 2500k + z68 board, most likely an asus v-pro gen 3, toss an 1100t in this old board, or go for the faildozer setup.

well a 955 bottlenecks a 580 in cpu intensive games from what I hear. I would further guess that the 2 extra cores will not assist with this so at a guesstimate I would say in cpu intensive games you will encounter a bottleneck(nothing major). Still I would highly suggest a 2500k even at stock it should do you well.

I shall stick to this thread to see what the more experienced OCN members suggest.

At this point, if you are primarily gaming, the i5 2500K is probably the best processor to get in that regard. If you are on a budget, something less powerful will do as well in the i3 and i5 series.

I would imagine that a healthy overclock on an 1100T wouldn't bottleneck much a 7950; but there will be some instances with some games where it might not keep up. SC2 might be an example if you're a pro with a bagillion little armies on screen and might cause a bottleneck. But for the most part if you're at 19x10/12 and up, the 1100T should keep up well enough for the 7950.

However if you wanted to swap platforms to see any other benefits in games that use less than three cores, i3/i5 is absolutely the way to go.

I mean you could go super cheap and get Z68 with a 2100, and upgrade to Ivy as it comes to market.

It's a matter of what you want, right now.

An 1100T would should not be the cause of any GPU bottlenecks unless you are playing a resource-intensive game while doing other resource-intensive tasks.

Theoretically, there will be GPU bottlenecks from the PCI Express 2.0 slot on your motherboard, though, as the Radeon HD 7950 is a PCI Express 3.0 card. However, since the PCIe 2.0 available bandwidth is still largely underutilized, there shouldn't be much of a problem.

If you insist on a PCI-Express 3.0 slot for this, then your only option would be to wait for an Ivy Bridge CPU and a mobo with a Z77/H77/Z75 series chipset

1100t Overclocked up to 4.2Ghz kicks crap out of 2500k.
This is very solid X6 CPU and I hardly imagine how it possible can bottleneck any game for a few years for sure.

I have a 1090T with a SLI 275 setup, and using monitoring software I can see that I am getting %95+ usage out of both GPU's. So I would say no bottle neck, and I'm on stock

I dont think there is going to be a bottleneck with an 1100T with any single GPU solution .

If you follow those lines, an i5 2500K clocked to 4.2GHz will crush the 1100t without breaking a sweat...
And this is coming from someone that loves AMD...
