So conclusion is the rig I had in mind is better than the one my stepson mentioned which uses the ASrock motherboard? besides lowering the PSU, the one i mentioned is better off right?
Those support CUDA as well.

keep everything you have,

change your RAM for more,

and get a cheaper power supply

ASRock is a nice board. It's cheaper and would do just fine if it's cheaper go with that one.

ur original rig is so overkill u shud use ur stepson's build except swap out the case, motherboard, and cpu.
CPU: i7 2600k ht will be handy for phtotshop
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen3 or a gigabyte z68-ud3h b3
*GIGABYTE UD3H DOES NOT HAVE PCIE3 but not rely important since we arent even close to fully saturating pcie2 but it does have the usb3 header where the ASROCK EXTREME3 doesnt
Case: Corsair Carbide 400r or 500r wat can i say its corsair quality. and also note the bulges on the side. its handy for cable management which u dont need to tie down or flatten. u can just take a twist tie or watever grap some cables and tie em and then ur done
from ur stepsons EVGA GTX 560 i wud get the MSI Twin Frozr 2 instead it has better cooling *NOTE TWIN FROZR COOLING DESIGN REQUIRES GOOD AIRFLOW IN CASE thats y i suggested corsair

what you picked is correct for your applications
you could lower the psu a little..850-1000w

maybe 16 gb ram might be beneficial

cad/adobe..2600k
gaming/web surfing 2500K

you may want to consider 2011 as well...

for that matter..phenom X6 over 2500K for cad/adobe..more cores=better

It looks like Blender supports CUDA, so I'd vote for the 3GB 580. The software packs I'm familiar with load the entire model to the GPU. With the 1.5GB card, if your model is 1.6GB, it'll only run on the CPU.

Forgot the other question, do you plan on overclocking?

and also of course the one u picked out is way better than ur stepsons because it costs that much more but wat u picked out is more of a full gaming rig rather than multi-use. Tru u can use a gaming rig for everything like me but u gota balance it out. Money or performance? cuz with economy still down from recession blowing this much money doesnt seem so good

No overclocking. I might just do it for the heck of it., If that extra performance gain is going to help, why not.

I like your suggestion for the MSI GTX twin frozr, everyone has only good things to say about it. Should I go with this card? http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N580GTX-Lightning-Xtreme-Edition.html
