It'll take a couple of days for the thermal paste to work and get a good seal. You should see temperatures drop significantly.
Arctic Silver 5 is one of the most popular thermal pastes out there.

ok thanks man, ill do that report back thumb.gif

You use rubbing alcohol to wipe off any remaining TIM or dirt, then just apply TIM like you would on CPU.

Try to follow this guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX-8cC3PNg4

He didn't use alcohol to remove the thermal paste, but I strongly recommend you do. It also helps for tiny miniature dust that will still be in the gpu and copper plate if not cleaned properly.

EDIT: AAAAAAND do not use the spread method he used lol. Add a pea sized stream of paste on the center of the GPU like another fellow here stated.

I remembered back then when i cleaned out my fans on my 5770. I got litterely a pound of dust off that thing. Forgot the apply the thermal paste then it was idling at 100c. I nearly fainted thinking I screwed up the heatsink. Took it off and realized I forgot the Thermal paste. Applyed it, it went 50c idle to around 28c idle lol

yes i applied the thermal paste, it lowered the tempratures buy 20 to 54 & 95 °C idle & loaded respectively, still high in loaded huh? !

So i try to turn some settings off and some on, . . . . apparently it was the Fecking V-sync all from the beginning doh.gifsneaky.gif now the fps is capped by 60 F/s instead of the 170 F/s i was getting when it (V-sync) was off! and the temprature reaches 71 max.

so it gets hotter when it draws more per sec Eh?. why make such option no fecking idea? laughingsmiley.gif

still i had to apply thermal paste, the thermal paste was veryold it had dried & turned to powder. thanks everyone! smile.gif

Well, when you get super high fps, it sometimes cause screentearing and makes it so your card render too much frames than your monitor can display(around 60-120 i believe ussually). So your card is basically rendering useless frames or frames thatll be displayed at once(cause of screen tearing). But sometimes with vsynce on, it can also cause mouse lag/delay. Like itll take like a split second(very noticable in fast pace games) delay from controls to screen, pissing you off.

Dead space 1, if you turn on vsynce, good luck with your mouse controls.

COD/quake based games, if you turn off vsynce, your game runs smoother, you get a lower local ping, (when im hosting with vsynce on, i get around 20ms, when im hosting with vsynce off, i get 2ms), you will also shoot slightly fast and the recoil wont be as bad.

yes it (V-sync) caused the mouse to lag a bit, i cant aim as fast as when it was turned off dont know why!

so i tuned it off and lowered everything models, turn off HDR, blur, dx8 instead of dx9 etc . . . i get now 150fps and temprature max of 74 °C ,

ill keep thing like that until i get a new card, everytime i m about to buy a card they announce a new series so i wait i will buy a 570 it will take very long for them to announce the mid range in that next series
