I`m having the same issues, enabling crossfire gives me 30-50% less framerate vs 1 card.

At 720p Ultra settings caspian is at 60-90fps and operation firestorm at 75-110fps this is with 1 HD6950 1gb.

With crossfire enabled it even has the lag/stutter issue after playing for a while.

Tried changing flip queue size , AFR-friendly cfx , 11.10-12.2 and respective caps.

Renderdevice.forcerenderahead 1 (disabling triplebuffer)

"Disabling" dx11

and lots of other suggested fixes found on the net.

Got the beta running at 120fps cfx with vsync on , Ultra 720p resoulution, 2xmsaa.

Crossfire in general is getting retarded, 70-90% of the games give negative scaling.

Since I have bought the farm , I might aswell deal with it and spend countless hours fixing the drivers/games.

Particularily annoying is that I upgraded my hd4850 cfx setup with battlefield 3 in mind... Going on 4 months with different drivers, new headaches.

Atleast one hd6950 gives great performance:D

i just came back from a game of bf3 on caspian border, i noticed the fps went in to the mid 30s range then sprouted back in to 60-70 range when i was on the second ring of the tower.

why does it do that?

would it have been a better idea had i chose a single gtx 580 over the 6950 2gb in crossfire mode?

No as the crossfire setup trounces the gtx580. Im thinking your power supply isnt feeding enough power to your 6950cfx setup. Run msi afterburner. When it happens, let it run its course and alt tab to see if your clock speed went down.

i just crashed again..... i guess my psu cannot handle the two gpus running on full settings in bf3, might as well stay with 2x msaa with everything else maxed out

I agree, there's potential for a bottleneck. NOT enough to warrant that low FPS though, sorry team. Pyro, you are mistaken. The amount of cores, or bandwidth isn't the end-all, be-all factor of deciding how good a processor is. Architecture and operations per clock cycle play a much bigger role. This is the reason a stock 2500k has proven itself over, and over, and over again. Respectfully, not picking fights, or trolling here.

Yeah, honestly the AMD crowd seems to stick together on this topic since they've obviously already invested in the hardware, and will of course shoot down any notion that their hardware could possibly be of inferior nature. IPC DOES matter, and while it may not occur in a highly threaded game, it WILL occur in single/dual threaded titles that heavily weigh performance on IPC rather than threading. Even in a quad threaded title, a higher IPC quad core like the 2500k will destroy the Phenom X6. BF3 is one of the rare titles that takes advantage of up to 8 threads, and thus will run just fine on his CPU.

Sure an overclock can tighten up the IPC disadvantage on the AMD chips, but most of the Intel SB chips are OC'd as well. Basically, when you're running a Crossfire/Tri-fire/Quadfire setup, the more of an IPC advantage you have, the better. In this case, it means nothing however because of the game we're discussing.

Also, in regards to the PSU being the issue. That COULD be the case, since you're getting random failures in the middle of gaming. My advice would be to get yourself a solid 750W/850W PSU with a decent 80 plus rating, and retry the same settings.

I speak for my self that I will face a CPU bottleneck when that is the case. But the thing is, most of you Intel guys say that a stock i5 2500k wont bottleneck a crossfire setup or sli setup atm.
You also point us with benchmarks of a stock i5 2500k getting the same type of performance when compared to a OC'ed Phenom II X6 @ 4Ghz.
The only conclusion we can take from that is:

do{
puts("No cpu bottleneck\n");
}while(i5_2500k_stock==No_bottleneck && Phenom_II_X6_4Ghz == i5_2500k_stock)

Sorry for the programming language but Im so deep into this that sometimes I cant even explain my self with proper words doh.gif

Hey man, to each their own. I'll never belittle a guy for his choice of cpu. I can only speak for my results when I ran bench after bench when comparing my old 965 @ 4 ghz to after I went intel. The difference for me was irritating to say the least. Admittedly, an oc'd 6 core amd is still a very viable performing cpu for the money, especially when considering the difference in motherboard costs. It still stands to reason that THIS case isn't a bottleneck problem IMO.

LoL code says so much more with fewer words...nice.
