What's needed to setup "hotswap hdd" port?

Thread Starter
I have a Corsair 650d, with a corsair ax1200 psu and asus p67 sabertooth mobo. My case has a port at the top that is supposedly for hot swapping hdd's. I'm wondering where should i plug the sata and power cable for it?

Should the sata cable go to my Marvell ports, or 1 of my 4 intel sata ii ports?
I will have a 240gb ssd on 1 one my sata iii ports, and a 2 2tb hdd on 2 out of 4 sata ii ports plus dvd rom.

and power wise, considering my psu is modular, should i give it it's own power cable? or should i put it in series with my other 3 hdd?

also once set up, i can basically plug in, and unplug a hdd/ssd at anytime correct? or do i need to shut the comp down, plug it in the port, then start it up?

sorry for the noob questions. thanks.

I had the same question a while back ago. If you want to plug and unplug (or plug'n play) you will need to enable hot swap/hot plug feature in your BIOS for that particular port.

You can connect your hot swap to either Intel or Marvell ports, it doesn't matter.

No need to give it it's own dedicated sata power cable.

i have the same question, i have this crosshair v mobo and i enabled AHCI on all 6 sata ports, i even activated the SATA ESP ON PORT #, my haf x case has 2 hot swap bays which i'm tryin to use,
my hot swap drive is detected and running fine, but everytime i unplug this drive, i can still see the drive in the "MY COMPUTER" and if i try to open it, my computer will freeze for about 2 minutes, the drive will disappear and the computer operation will resume back to normal. is this normal? and is the "SAFE TO REMOVE HARDWARE" button supposed to show up on the systray? i can't see it anywhere, please help
