Never did a build log before, but figured this would be a good time to start. Decided to splurge with my tax return (like I did last year), and went to the X79 platform.

I'll mainly be upgrading the existing computer, and not starting from scratch (awww), but it'll still be pretty sick. Upgrading from an i7 2600K & 6990/6970 trifire setup.

Update 02/17 - Added new SSD and an extra 16GB memory.

Existing Parts:
Video Card: Sapphire AMD HD 7970 3GB
SSD: Intel X-25 160 GB SSD
Western Digital 1TB Blue Hard Drive
Case: Corsair 700D (with Window)
Power Supply: Corsair HX 1000W
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
Watercooling:
XSPC RS360 Black - High Performance Copper Fin Radiator
XSPC X2O 750 12V Pump/Reservoir
Phobya G1/4 Fillport
6x XSPC G1/4 3/8ID x 5/8OD Compression Fitting

Seems like a lot to carry over. But now to the fun stuff.

New Additions:

CPU: Intel Core i7 3960X Extreme Edition
Motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV Extreme X79 Socket 2011
Memory: 32GB (8x4gb) G.Skill RipjawX DDR3 1600mhz
SSD: OCZ Agility 3 SATA 3 120GB
Video Card: Diamond AMD HD 7970 3GB
Watercooling:
XSPC Raystorm CPU Waterblock
4 Ft. ClearFlex 60 Tubing 3/8" ID 5/8" OD
Polypropylene "T" Fitting 3/8"
3 Ft. PrimoChill Anti-Kink Coils - Black
NZXT Red LED Strip

Update 11/15/13

Samsung Evo 250GB SSD
Video Cards: 2x Gigabyte R9 290X 4GB Video Cards

New Parts and Assembly

Finally, the new parts arrive!

450

Time to start putting this thing together.

450

With the MB installed, let's see how this new raystorm fits in.

450

Time to put the tubes on and the anti-kink (which I still have a ton left over *future freebie - hint hint*)

450

450

And with everything installed.

450

About to try it out - power's going to the board but not turned on yet.

450

Success!

More pics added!!! Finished setting it up for testing purposes. Going to leak test, fit in the fan controller, and put in new lighting within the next couple of days. I also want to try my fan at overclocking this bad boy. But one thing at a time. =D

Enjoy!

Just stepping into overclocking this bad boy, and easily doing 4.5ghz without any effort on my part. Ran stable on OCCT 4.1 for an hour stress on Small Data Set.

Here is CPU validation:

I think I have a decent chip! Going to go for 5.0ghz!

Validation for 5.0ghz! Haven't tested stability, but I'm not even going to bother. I'm now just going to push this chip and see where I can go.
