Sub $100 Headphones?

Thread Starter
My JVC HA RX700's broke a few days ago. Actually, the right cup broke, I can only hear sound coming from the left ear. I figured this would be a golden opportunity to get a new pair of headphones.

I was looking into the 700's older brother, the RX900's, but unfortunately they are currently sold out almost everywhere for some strange reason.

I will be using these headphones mainly for gaming, but also for some music. I would say gaming/music 85/15.

I use an on board sound card and I will not be using any sort of amp, just the headphones by themselves. I was recently looking into a pair of ATH-AD700's. They're a bit over my $100 budget, but they look real nice.

Can you guys recommend me some other good headphones for under $100. Anything from $50-$110(Shipped).

Oh, and comfort is an extreme must. I want to be able to wear them for 3-4+ hours straight and not have to keep readjusting them due to comfort issues.

Appreciate the help!

I'd definitely consider getting a sound card mate. The performance of the onboard stuff won't make your headphones sound any better. A Xonar DG (PCI) card is affordable and can carry a decent amp to get you the quality and tones in your headphones.

Headphone-wise, the Samson SR850 are quite popular and for such a low price (if you include the sound card) will cost considerably less than purchasing the AD700s. Alternatively to the AD700s are Sennheiser's HD558 (which you could also consider).

I'm not looking to get a sound card at the moment. I'm not a crazy audiophile....yet.

The HD558's are not in the same price range as the AD700's and they are well over my budget (they're at $180).

Still need some more recommendations.

I currently have the Creative Aurvana Live! headphones, which should run you about $70 USD. Currently very happy with them, and apparently they share the same drivers as the Denon D1001.

Definitely check out the Samson SR850s. I just recently purchased these and they're great for gaming and listening to music at a $50 price tag. Look around for some reviews as well to make sure they're for you of course, all the ones I've found have given them great scores. thumb.gif

I was actually looking at the Samson SR850 and they seem to have gotten good reviews. People have compared the sound quality on them to the AD700's and they said they are quite comfortable (which is mainly what I am looking for).

Could still use some more recommendations, but to be honest the SR850s are looking like the clear choice for me at the moment.

Does anyone here have these phones and can tell me about them?

I'd recommend the Sony MDR-V6s, for what they are they're good headphones.

I heard that the Shure SRH440 where pretty decent.

You can also take a look on that forum, they are more specialized into headphones.

Thank you for all of the replies, I appreciate all of the help.

I'm going to go with the Samson SR850's just because I've read so many great reviews about them in terms of sound quality for gaming as well as comfort for extended use.

Thanks again.
