Details surrounding the upcoming Olympus OM-D E-M5 interchangeable lens camera have leaked out ahead of its impending official launch.

Designed to sit firmly at the high end of the market, the OM-D E-M5 is reported by Photo Rumors to feature a 16 megapixel sensor, five-axis image stabilisation and an ISO range of 200 to 25,600 for excellent low-light shooting. The unit is confirmed as featuring a 3in OLED-based touch-screen on the rear and an electronic viewfinder.

The OM-D will feature a variety of new lenses at launch, including wide-angle, prime and telephoto models, while the lack of in-built flash will be rendered moot by on- and off-body flash units.

For professional use, leaked images have confirmed an optional battery grip. Sadly, with Olympus keeping full details of the device under wraps until closer to the time, there's no way of knowing just how many shots the extended-life grip will offer.

What is known is the price, thanks to a mistake by Amazon's Japanese arm which saw a listing for the camera go live before its time. Although swiftly removed, the listing was spotted by 43Rumors which was able to confirm a sale price of ¥111,258 suggesting that the camera will be launching somewhere around the £1,000 mark in the UK.

Thus far, Olympus has remained silent on exactly when it will be officially announcing the OM-D E-M5.

This may just be my first mirrorless system....

Seems like a nice camera and all, but no way am I paying that much for so little sensor, I have a fricken 5D sensor sitting on my desk (I'm kinky like that). Smart with the grip and vertical grip being two separate things, I'd pay 3,500 for a FF version of this.

Will we ever see a FF mirrorless system?

EDIT: And m4/3 vs APS-C, there is really very little in sensor size... Sure if you are a low light fiend it may be an issue, but if low light is not such an issue...

Well the M9 sort of counts right? tongue.gif For a M4/3 lens to equal the dof and FL of a 35L, it'd need to be 17.5 f/0.7, although Voigtlander's jus announced f/0.95 is closeish. And how about the 50 f/1ishness of the 6x7 and 105? 25 f/0.5, that just isn't ever happening.

Sorry but that becomes a little jargon-ish to me redface.gif

Can you please elaborate? I still consider myself a beginner smile.gif

EDIT: Do understand that f/0.5 won't happen though tongue.gif

Okay so instead of shooting the 24x36 frame size of 135 or full frame digital, it shoots a 55x70mm negative, so a 105mm roughly becomes 50mm. And at every distance I've plugged in on DOF calculator, it matches or exceeds the uhh... littleness in DOF(?, you get what I mean) when I plug in 50mm f/1 and a 35mm frame. Also you get so much detail with the negative, its 4.456x bigger.

I could have said the Leica 50 0.95, but I don't own that and doubt I ever will. EVER.

Is this not a good thing then? More detail and larger? Exceeding etc?

Sorry for being stupid frown.gif

Laymans terms:

Big film, fast lens, many blurry time (in the background). And because big film, big detail. More big detail than D800 BY FAR.
