Help overclocking my Prescott 3.0Ghz

Thread Starter
I've been doing a lot of reading on this forum its been a great help today, like how to manual OC with the speed and multiplier, over using the Asus Turbo AI Booster and the limits of my CPU, one thing I did learn for being aircooled my Prescott is in the low range when it comes to idle/load temps, and the safety net for my chip is a vcore voltage 1.525 when aircooled.

Now my problem, i'm stuck at 257 OC in my Bios with 686Mhz memory OC and vcore voltage of 1.45(shows 1.46-1.501 with Asus software and CPU-Z), runs just fine at load right now it varies from 41C-45C 3.8Ghz/1027FSB. When I try 258 windows gets iffy on loading maybe once out of every other try, then at 259+ my BIOS boot up shows "NO MASTER H.D.D. Found" wont even load windows cause of it.

I have the lastest BIOS update for my MB(v.401) other than the BETA(601) version should I try this? Or are than other options I can change in BIOS to allow a 260+ OC?(i.e. memory? vcore?) I've already disabled Spread Spectrum which I read to do, any other tips?

Set the RAM on a divider. Likely, your RAM is right now your limiting factor. Look in BIOS for your RAM frequency, and set it at 400 instead of the default 533 (or on 200 instead of 266 if your BIOS works with external frequencies).

Right now, your RAM is quite heavily overclocked, even exceeding speeds of DDR2 667. If you knock it down, it'll run at 257/200*400 = DDR2 514 speeds at your current FSB of 257MHz. Thus, you'll get more headroom from your RAM.

I hope this will help.

The problem I am having is when I change the CPU frequency and move on to the D Ram Frequemcy it auto changed to whatever I changed the CPU to, gives me three option right now at 257 CPU its like 514/686/720 DRAM choices it wont let type anything in so I chose the lowest one, everything else is on auto like PCI express frequency, memory voltage, only one I changed is vcore to 1.45

What should I have AI Performance says Standard and Turbo?

That might be the wall you're hitting. The 915P chipset is not known to be a great overclockers and from what I've seen, you've achive some of the highest OCs that I've seen on a 915P chispet, mine can barely crack the 250fsb: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=88696

So if you can't get any higher, just call it a day and know that you've done more than what the average 915P can do. Then again, it's an ASUS 915P that you have and pretty much all ASUS OC higher than most boards back then.

Damn it! Now I gotta go and see if I can OC mine higher and be stable which mine wasn't "that" stable at 250fsb.

"Back Then" huh damn I thought I made a good choice back in Feb of this year when I ordered this MOBO, guess I gotta do my HW for next year...

Now I came into a new problem, I updated my BIOS and I know longer have Standby/Hibernate option in my power options? Should I start a new thread or is there a simple fix for this?
